February 11, 1918
The Council of the City of Palo Alto met :in regular
eession on this date at 7:30 p.m., with Mayor Cooley presiding.
Boll call as follows: -
Present: Cooley, lienry,. Jordan, Miller, Mosher, Peterson, Roller,
Snyder, (h.J.) Snyder (J.0.) Thoitz.
Absent: Congdon, Lesley, Swain, Vail, 'lying.
The minutes of the regular meeting of 'a :a_y 14, 1918,
and of the adjourned meeting of January 21, 1918, were read and
approved as read.
Pickwick Stafees: hearing Set.
An application was received from the Pickwick Stages,
::orthern Bivieion, a corporation, for a permit to use the streets
of Palo Alto in its auto bus business.
On motion of Peterson and Miller the hearing of said ap-
plication wee set for March 1l, 1918, at 8 p.m., in the Council
room in the City Hall.
Lease for Standard Oil Co. °i11in Station Granted
An application was received- from the Standard C i1 Com-
pany for a lealte for a filling station near the northwest corner
of university avenue and the state highway.
On motion of Jordaa, seconded by Peterson, such lease
was authorized, the terms of the lease to be the same as those
in the lease for the Shell Company's station. The pans and
the color of the painting for tre building were referred to the
''ayo r.
Recommendation from Safety Board: y"Jage increase.
A communication was received from, the Board of Public
Safety recommending that the salary of the driver of the fire
truck be increased $20.00 a month for the balance of the fiscal
year.
On motion of Thoits and Snyder (J .O,) the recommenda-
tion was referred to Committee i4.
Recommendation of Works Board: aE1 T.r1creaae.
A communication was received from. the : oard of Public
`corks, together with a report of the City Engineer on the wage
situation, recommending increases in the pay of certain city em-
ployees.
On motion of Mosher and Peterson the same was referred
to Committee #4 to report at the next meeting.
Ordinance #164 (Billiard Rooms) Passed.
A request was received from the Board of Public Safety
that the vote taken on an ordinance permitting billiard and pool
roomy to remain open until midnight be recan idered, said or-
dinance '.saving failed of enactment at the meetirae on January 14,
1y1d.
On motion of Snyder (h.J.) and Thoite , tee vote taken
om said ordinance on said date was reconsidered.
On motion of Roller and Snyder (h.J.) the ceedi.n. nce.
entitled: "An Ordinance Amending Section 2 of Article ; of
Codified Ordinance #1 of the City of Palo Alto," was pas -zed, all
voting aye except Miller who voted. no .

Ordinance #165, entitled "An Ordinance for tae Protec-
tion of the Realth. of the People of the City of Salo Alto, ?rovid-

in for inspection by the .iealth Officer of the City of Palo Alto
of Laundries and Other Establishments of Like Character," was re..
commended by Committee #2 for enactment.
On motion of Peterson and Miller paid ordinance was
passed all voting aye on roll ;,all except Snyder ( .S.) who voted
no.
Ordinance (Acre-etance of Streets) st Reading.
An ordinance entitled "An Ordinance eroviding for and
Declaring Certain Public Lighways to be Open, Public Streets of
the City of Palo -Alto," was introduced, given first rearing and
referred to Committee #1.
As to Road Tax hue from: Count:v.
On motion of Peterson and eiller the City Clerk was in-
structed to confer with the county officials as to the amount of
road taxes due the city from the county in the territory annexed
.to the v ity of Palo Alto on December 1 i , 191?.
Claims Allowed.
On motion of Thoits and Jor,an the following c�.s,arrs
were allowed and warrants authorized in payment of same:

Overtime Claim: Referred
Jordan and Henry.moved that the claim of the City Auditor
for overtime in the sum of $60.60 be paid.
Peterson and Roller moved to mend that the claim be ee-
ferred to Committee #5 and the motion to amend was passed.
On motion of Thoits and Biller the Council adjourned.
