December 18, .1917.
The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date
at 7:30 p.m., pursuant to adjournment of December 14, 1917, with
Mayor Cooley presiding. Roll call ns follows:
Present: Congdon, Cooley, Henry, Jordan,, Lesley. Miller, Mohr,
Roller, Snyder, ." 5 ;n Thoits.
Absent : Peterson. Snyder ( _.J. j "ling.

A report was received from the Board of Public Works,
transmitting to the Council a report of the City Engineer relative
to the purchase of a Diesel engine and electric generator, with its
approval. and recommending that the City Council proceed to call
an election to vote on the issuance of bonds in the sum of 366.oco
for the purchase of said Diesel engine and electric generator..
The said report of ;.he City Engineer w;s read. Mosher
moved that the report of the C .L tyEngineer and the recommendation
of the Board .of Public Works 'oe alpproved. The motion was second-
ed by Vail and passed by u;':animou:3 vote.
A resolution was introduced and read, entitled: 1tlReso-
lution determining, that the public interest and public necessity
demand certain public municipal improvements in and for the City
of Palo Alto, the cost_ of which will be too great to be paid out
of the ordinary income and revenue of said City, to wit: The ac-
quisition by purchase and ine tallation of a Diesel en,eine elec-
tric generating unit for the municipal power -plant of said City.'
Thoits moved that the resolution be adopted, The mo-
tion was seconded by Swain and passed by unanimous vote on roll
call.

The City Attorney made a verbal report on the legal
status of the gas rate and subway cases.
Vail moved that the Council adjourn to meet in the City
hall on Wednesday, December 19, 1917, at 7:30 p.m. The riot ions
was seconded by Jordan and pasoed, ,,.
