The Council, of the City of Palo Alto is hereby caned to
meet :n the Council Chamber of the City Hall on Monday, December
"3, 1917, at 7:30 p.m., to consider and act upon the appointment
°of a member of the 'Board of Public {orks of said City, and to
"transact. such other municipal business as may come before said
"meeting.

Mayor Cooley presided and roll call was as follows:
Present: Cooley, Jordan, Lesley, 1..i11er, Mosher, Roller. Snyder,

Absent: Congdon,, henry, '. ete rsoza, Snyder (1..J.) •.' ing,
An application was receitied. from J. R. Andrus for a permit
to conduct. an automobile transportation line between Palo Alto
and Carps Fremont.

Vail moved that the date ford the 'rearin of said appli-

was seconder' by _'roller and passed.
A report was received fro= Committee ff l recom.mendin;;:
1. That the Council begin proceedings to call an election.
to vote on the issuance of bonds for the purchase of a 500 E.P.
Diesel engine and generator for t ;e power plant, as recommended
by the :oard of Public `;s'or'es.
2. That an appropriation; of :?`6Co be made for the exten-
sion of a water rain to the'Palo A1 -,.o Linion high School grounde,
as recommended by the ::oard of i'u'blic -:forks.
3. That an appropriation o"' 5500 be made for the construc-
tion of a macadam sidewalk along the State highway on the city's
leased land fro= university Avenue ue to the San .c rancisqui o creek
4. That on appropriation of $20C) be made for installing
lights •a 1.ant; the San Prancisquita creek from Alma. Street to the
State highway, as recommended by the Board of Public Works.
On motion of Vail ....p:".:' ..:os er action on the reco=endation
to call a bond election was postponed to the next regular meeting -

On motion of Tho_i s and Swain an appropriation of '500
from the unexpended balance in the general fund for sideve,lk along
the State leighway was made cy unanimous vote on roll call.
On motion, of Vail and '_osher action on the recernmo.nda-
tion for an appropriation for 1 - ts alonw. the creek waspostponed
until the Southern ?ac c. Company answers $15 to pedestrian cross- ing.
At this time Councilman Congdon took his seat.

Vail moved that the Counci.l proceed to the a:po.int rent

T e motion was seconded by Miller and passed. Vail and Mosher
were named are tellers.
The first ballot resulted in a L:..animous vote of eleven

The Mayor declared sr. horabin appointed as :cember of the
Board of Public Works for the unexpired term of 7. L. Crandall
resigned.

A motion passed at a meeting of the C ,ui c it on -,T V ember
15, 1917. expressing the sense of the Council that the City should
purchase the Townsend property at the price of- :"25,0OO was submitted.
0n motion of Vail and Miller the matter was referred to
roc City Planning Commission to report at the regular mer ti:a, of
December 10, 1917.
