pursuant to a call by .'.^.y'or Cooley, to consider req,:.est of the
Commanding Officer of Camp Fremont that the army be ,,_muted to
use a portion of the city's leased land lying between t:; -,,e ':Louth -

to transact such other municipal business as night before the
Council. .::ryor Cooley presided and roll call :vac as follows:

Conditional Permit Granted.
The Mayor presented the ree,uest of Colonel Smiley, com-
mnCer of Camp Fremont, that the army be permitted to use a por-
tion of the city's leased land lying, "_)weer th, State
and the Southern Pacific Railroad and north of -Jniversity Avenue
for drill purposes. Councilman Swain stated that a ten. a.tree
proposition is under consideration to use this land as. an .army
recreation center.
On motion. of Masher, seconded. by :-roller, a pe..'mit was
authorized for such use of said land until such ..:me a., the cane
may be required for said recreation. center.

An ordinance entitled "An Ordinance i.epeali irdinsnce
r,..4j of the City of Palo Alto" was introduced and read. On. mo-
tion of i11er, seconded by Lesley, said ordinance was passed as
an emergency'ordinance by unanimous vote on roll call.
At this time Councilman Thoits took his seat and Cou-;_
oilman Swain was excused.

. S. Townsend in clock 13 was taken up and on motion. of . osher
the Council took a recess of five minutes to inspect the property.
Mosher moved that i:, is the sense of the members of the
Council present at this meeting that said property should be pur-
chased at the price quoted, $25,000, provided ar;an."ement s for
paying, for the same can be made. The motion waS seconded by
Snyder (J.0.) and passed by unanimous vote.
