The Council of the City of Palo Alto net on this date at
S p.m., pursuant to adjournment of October' 8. 1917, with i_ay0a
Cooley presiding. ::oll caul as follows:-

the petition of qualified electors of "mouth Palo
filed on October 8, 191i, that certain territory described in said
petition be annexed to and made a part of the City of Palo Alto,
was taken up for consideration.
Gustav Lau::leister was morn by the City Clerk and tes-
tified that the signatures to said petition were secured by him
and were the signatures of the Persons as shown.
C. C. Taylor was sworn by the City Clerk and testified
that he had compared the names of the persons signing said peti-
tion with. tine t sfidavits of registration in the office of the
County Clerk of Santa Clara county and that the names of the qual-
ified electors on said petition represented more than 25% (namely
47',';) of the qualified electors in the territory proposed to be an-
nexed.

A resolution entitled ".Resolution of the Council of the
City of Palo Alto in the ;;Titter of the Annexation of Outside Ter-
ritory, to be Designated 'South Palo Alto.' to the City of Palo
Alto, in Accordance with the Petition of Electors. of Said Terri-
tory, and Pxoviraing for Notice of Said Election," was read. •
J. L. Greer spoke in opposition to certain property ly-
ing between the Southern Pacific ._ailroad and t.e State ig:wy,
being included in the annexed territory.

Vail and Snyder r (h.J.) moved to amend the resolution as
read by fixing the date of the election for ,:oven:oer 21, 1917, and
naming J. B. ihollinsead. Ella V. Baldwin end Juliette C. Arnold as
election officers. The motion to amend was passed by unarimo:ls
vote.
Vail and Snyder (h.J .) move d that the resolution as
amended be adopted and the motion was passed by unanimous vote on
roll call.

The City Engineer made a report in regard to paving cer-
tain streets and recommended the paving of Alma Street.
Vail moved that after the annexation election _the Cou+.C"•
start proceedings to pave Alma street between Palo Alto Avenue and
Channing Avenue where not already paved. The motion was seconded
by ahoits and passed.

Chairman Vail of Committee #2 reported. that the cods*xe
had investigated the complaints tha . undesirable films were bei.,r
shown at the local theatres a.nd recommended that the Board. of Vv-
1.LC Safety listen to the complaints as to the character of the
plays presented and enforce the present laws in regard thereto.
