PROCEEDINGS OF TEE COUNCIL OF T1. CITY OF PALO ALTO'
BEG INY1N G FISCAL YEAR 1917.1918
City Hall, Palo Alto. Cal.
July 2, 1917.
The Council of the .City of Palo Alto met on this date,
following the adjournment of the adjourned meeting held on this
date, for the purpose of reorganization.
The Council was called to order by the City Clerk, ao
stated that the members -elect. W. F. Henry, C. E. Jordan, E. P.
es ley. Arthur Roller and J. 0.. Snyder, had taken the oath of
office. Councilman -elect Wing was not present. Roll tall wee
as follows:
Present: Congdon, Cooley. Henry. Jordan. Lesley, Miller, eother.
Peterson, Roller, Snyder, (H.J.) Snyder, (J-0-), Swain.
Thoi ts, Vail.

Mayor Cooley thanked the members of the Council and the
city officials for the uniform courtesy extended to him daring
his term of office.
Councilman Vail expressed hie sincere appreciation of
:zayor Cooleye a efforts for the welfare of the city, which had
been of great benefit and entitled him to -the thanks of the public.
The other members of the Council emphasized Mr. Vail remarks.
Vail moved that the Council proceed to ballot secretly
for all officials to be chosen. The motion was seconded by
Mosher and passed. Congdon and Miller were appointed tellers.
The balloting for Mayor was as follows:

Mr. Cooley having received a majority of the votee of
the Council was declared elected Mayor for the fiscal year 1917-

The balloting for a member of the Board of Public Works
was as follows: M.A.Buchan,. 9 votes; F. B. Butterfield. 1 vote:
=• Sanford, 1 vote; J.R.Slonaker 2 votes; I ballet blank.
Mr. Buchan having received a majority of the votes of
the Council, was declared appointed.

For City Clerk and Aseessor, Frank Kasson received 13
votes, and 1 ballot was blank. Mr. Kaeson was declared appoint-
ed.
For City Auditor and Tax Collector, C. H. Jordan re-
ceived 11 votes and Eli King 2 votes, and 1 ballot was blank.
Mr. Jordan was declared appointed.
For City Attorney, N. E. Malcolm. received 10 votes,
E.D.3kin 1 vote, Frederick Schneider l vote and two ballots
were blank. Mr. Malcolm was declared appointed.
For Police Judge, Egerton D. Lakin received 11 votes,
Frederick Schneider 2 votes and. Frank Waterhouse l vote. Mn
Lakin was declared appointed.
