The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date
at 8 p.m., pursuant to the following call: y Y Cal.,

*Tile Council of the City of Palo Alto is hereby called
to meet in special seseicn on Wednesday, May 23, 19?7o at 8
o clock p.m., to canvass the returns of the election to be head
on May 21, 1917, to consider an ordinance providing for the in-
curring of a bonded indebtednesa in the sum of $70,000 to pay
for, the acquisition by purchase of the property and rights of
the Palo Alto Gas Coupany; and to transact such other business
as nay come before the meeting.

Mayor Cooley presided. Roll call, was as follows:
Present: Congdon, Cooley, Henry, Jorde n, Miller. Snyder, Taoita
Vail.
Absent: Ackley, Mosher, Peterson, Roller, Swain, Wing.

A petition, was presented and read asking that the City
Council. include in the proposed election relating to the trans-
fer of bonds voted for the Palo A.l tW seenne subway a third p:a=
position to have the subway constructed on a straight line along
the extension of Iiawthci e avenue, and that a map showing the
three proposals be published.
The matter was discussed at some length and on motio
of Thoits and Congdon the report was received and ordered placed
on file and the ordinance proposing a change in the use of the
bonds was referred back to Committee #4.
A letter from Percy G. Goode accepting the appointment
to audit the books of the city was received and ordered filed.
A letter from the Bank of nne.yfield making application
to borrow funds of the City- of Palo Alto was received and or-
dered filed.
Report of Commite:et, _.
A report was received from Committee #4 recommending
that the ordinance providing for the issuance of the Palo Alto
Municipal Gas Bonds be amended to provide that the said bonds
may be refunded on or after ten years; that the bonds be issued
in two series of the denomination of $1000 and $750; and that
the bonds be dated. as of June let, the interest being payable
on Julie 1st andDecember 1st, It was further recommended teat
the application of the Bank of Mayfield to borrow city fundobe
ziot considered at this time.
On motion of Snyder and Miller the report was adopted.

A resolution entitled *Resolution Declaring the Result
or` the Council Election Held in the City of Palo Alto, on May 21,
1917,* said resolution declaring that E. P. Lesley. having ; e-
ceived a majority of all ' votes cast at said election,.election,.bas been
duly elected Councilman of the City of Palo Alto for the term of
two. years from and after July 1, , 193 7 . was introduced and reed.
On motion of Vail and Snyder said resolution was adopt-
ed by unanimous vote on roll call.
An ordinance providing for' tine issuance of the Palo Alto
Gas Ponds, introduced at the regular meeting on May 14.
