The Council of the City of Pale' Alto met in regular
session on this date at 8 p.m.. Mayor Cooley presided. Roll call
as follows:
Present: Ackley, Congdon, Cooley, Jordan, Miller, Snyder, Swain
Thoits.
Absent: Henry. Mosher. Peterson, Roller, Vail; Wing.
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 9, 1917, and
of the adjourned meeting of May 4, 1917, were read and approved
as read.

tive to the Embaroadero subway was read and referred to the City
Planning Commission for early report, on motion of Swain and
Ackley.

A co=unication was received from the Public Library
Board. requesting that the Council make an appropriation to pay.
the expenses of the librarian ate the annual convention of li-
brarians, said expenses not to exceed $45.00.
A motion by Thoitse-and Snyder to appropriate $45 for
this purpose received a unanimous vote, but was declared loot as

The report of the Departmtmt of Public Works for March
and the reports of the Auditor and Treasurer for April were re-
ceived and ordered filed.
On motion of Congdon .and. Thoits the matter of making a
deposit in savings bank of the surplus in the working btilance in
the meter deposit fund was referred to Concmitte #5.
On motion of Swain and Mu ; le_ the following CiZD.fx's, re-

On motion of Swain and Jordan, action on the ordinance
relating to the change in 'location of the Palo Alto Avenue subway
was laid over until the next meeting.

Mayor Cooley suggesued that the engineers at the power
plant be deputized as police officers without pay.,, On motion of
Congdon and Miller, the matter was referred to the Mayor with
power to act.
At this time Councilman Snyder was excused.
On motion of Ackley and Miller a recess of 15 minutes
was declared.

A resolution entitled "Resolution Declaring Result of
Council Election° was introduced and read, and. on motion. of Swain
and Thoits was passed by unanimous vote on roll call. Said re-

A resolution entitled %Resolution Declaring Result of
Election for Palo Alto Municipal Ca; Bonds% was introduced and
read. Said resolution recites that the Council has received end
canvassed the 'returns of the election hcid on May 14, 1917, on
the proposition to authorize an indebtedness of r7O.OG4 for the
purchase of the property and rights of the Palo Alto Gas Compaanv;
and finds that 333 votes were cast at eaid election, of which
number of votes 740 votes were in favor of said proposition and
88 votes against. It

of said City and Providing for the issuance of Bonds Evidencing
