Mosher, Peter- son, Roller, Snyder, Thoits, Val.:., Wing. Absent: Henry, Swain.. The minutes of the regular meeting of Yarch 12, 1917, vas read and approved ae read. The minutes of the called meetine of March 16, 1917, were read. Wing moved that the minutes of said called meeting be ap- proved and that the resolution passed at said meeting declaring the neces city of a bond issue to purchase the property and rights of the Palo Alto gas Company be ratified and confirmed. The motion was seconded by Th01te and passed by unani- sous vote. Az _ Diversion of Subwa Vail moved that the City Attorney be a^.ked to prepare the necessary legal papers to submit to the voters at the election to be held on May 14, 1917, the question as to whether the $9,500 bonds voted for a subway at Palo Alto avenue and. Alma, street ehall be diverted to the construction of a subway at or near Hawthorne avenue and Alm, street. The motion ems seconded by Peterson and passed by unaniamousa vote. A resolution was introduced and read entitled "Resolu- tion of the Council of the City of Palo Alto Determining that the Public Necessity and Convenience Demand a Separation of Grades and the Construction of a Subway at a Point of Cr saing the En• barcadero Road over the Tracks of the Southern. Pacific Company.• On motion of Peterson, seconded by Vail, the resolution was passed by unanimous vote on roll, call. Ackley and Miller were appointed tellers. On the first ballot, E.P.Lesley received 5 votes, J.S. Borden 4 votes and F.P.Butterfield, G.W.Lillie and Eli King 1 vote each. The vote varied up to the fifth ballot. On the sixth to the ninth ballots Borden received 7 votes and Lesley 5 votes. At this time Mosher and 'lying were excused. On the tenth ballot Borden received 6 votes and LeB1 5 votes.
