The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date - at 7:30 p.m., puxsuant to the following call: 'Palo Alto, California, March 15. 1917. A special_ meeting,, of the Council of the City of Palo Alto is "called for Friday, March 16, 1917, at 7:30 p.m., for the pur- pose of considering measures /coking to the calling of an'elec- 'tior, to vote upon: the issuance of bonds to acquire by purchase `the property and rights of the Palo Alto Gas Company, and to trsas• "act such other business as may cone before the Council. by order of the Mayor- C.P.,Cooley. (Signed) Frank Kasson, to City Clerk." Mayor Cooley presided. The call for the meeting was read. Roll call was as follows: - Present: Ackley, Congdon, Cooley, henry,. Miller, Peterson, Swain, Thoite, Vail, Wing. Absent: Jordan, Mosher, Roller, Snyder. Resolution Relatinjo t o .fond Election (Gaz) : Passed, A resolution was introduced and read, entitled: "Reeo lution determining that the public interact co and the public ne s city demand; certain public municipal improvements in and for -the City -of Palo Alto, the cost of which will be too great to be paid out of the ordinary income and revenue of said city, to wit: the. acquisition by purchase of the property and. rights of the Palo Alto Gas Company:, a public utility corporation, both within and without the City of: Palo Alto." Swain moved -that the resolution be passed. The motion was seconded by Wing and carried by unanimous vote on roll call." As to Brakes on Street Wing roved that the City Attorney be instructed to take- up the matter of having the Pen ns lar Railway Company provide air brakes for its street cars used on its Palo Alto and Staanforr University line, and report to the Council. The motion was se- conded by henry and _passed.
