The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular aes-
Sion on this date at 8 p.m., with Mayor Cooley presiding. Rol/
call as follows:
Present: Congdon, Cooley, Cramer, henry, Miller, Mosher, Peterson,
Roller, Snyder, Thoits„ Vail.
Absent; Ackley, Jordan, Swain, Wing.

A petition signed by bus .neee firms and individuals of the
city was before the Council asking that the lease held by the Shell
Company for a filling station at the State highway and University
avenue be rescinded.
On motion of Miller and Peterson the petition was receiv.
ed and ordered filed.
Resolution Re^ ": 1 , tT Co.^'"` J ': eaee Passe'
A resolution entitled "Resolution Cancelling the Lease be-
tween the Shell Company of California and the City of Palo Alto"
was introduced and read. On motion of Miller and Henry, the reso-
lution was passed, all voting aye on roll call except Mosher, who
voted no.

A communication was received from the City Planning Co -
mission recommending that the Council an.rovc certain measures re-
lating to city planning now before the State Legislature, viz:
Senate Constitutional Amendment #16 and Senate rills #430, #431 aid
#905. On motion of Peterson and Cramer the recommendation of the
Commicaion was approved.
Re'.orts Received.
The report of the Department of Public Works for ,;anion',
1917, and of the Auditor and Treasurer for Febrt;,axy, 1917, were -
received and ordered filed.
Claims Allowed.
On motion of Mosher and Peterson the following claims ap-
proved by Committee #5, were allowed and warrants authorized in ps,V-
mer:t of the same by unanimous vote on roll call:
W. .Tucker, court reporter, Thoits v Byxbee
Chase Moser, services in Thoits v1,yxbee
M. A. Lunsford, stenographer in Thoits v Byxbee
Times'Pub. Co., personal property tax receipts

City Engineer Byxbee reported verbally in the matter Oz"
the proposal of the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. to .furnish currtm.

At this time Councilman Cramer retired.
The resignation of Frank Cromer as a member of the Ccurci=
was read. Councilmen Peterson and Mosher expressed their regret `zA'
private considerations made this action necessary.
