The resignation of Prof,. C. A. i,uston as merger of the
oard of Public Library was read and on motion of val. and :`osheW
was accepted with regret. The City Clerk as directed to write
`-,.r. Huston expressing the appreciation of the Council for the ex-
cellent service he has given the city.

Wing and Mosher moved that Prof. Percy A. Martin be ap-

The City Attorney called attention to the necessity for
an adjourned meeting," to take action in calling an election n to
vote on charter amendments.

Vail moved that when the Council adjourns it adjourn to
Monday, September 18, 1916, at 8 p.m., at the City hall. The lo-
tion was seconded by Mosher and parsec.
Valuation of Gas Plant.
The decision of the *railroad Commission of the State of
California in the application of the city to have the valuation
of the property of the Palo Alto Cae Company fixed was received.
On motion of Wing and Thoits the matter was referred to
the Board of Public Works to report before September 18, 1916.
At this time Peterson was excused.

An ordinance relating to dairies was given second reading
and referred -back to Committee #2 for fur tier amendment.

Ordinance #144 entitled "An Ordinance Relating to Light
and Power Rates" was read. Thoits and Vooher moved its passageas
an emergency ordinance. The motion was lost on roll call, all
voting aye except Roller who voted no.
Reports Received.
The annual report of the Library Board and the reports
of the Auditor and Treasurer for August were received and ordered
filed.
Claims Allowed.
On tno.;ion of Mosher and Roller the Auditor was authorized
to draw warrants in payment of the following claims by unanimous
vote on roll call:
McLaren Goode & Co., auditing city books $250.00'
N. .Malcolm, law books for city 90.00
League of Cal. ,'.Municipalities, dues 30.00

To Write Attorney General
In view of thefact that a deputy in the Attorney Gener-
al's office is appearing as an attorney against the city in a Ose
before the Appellate Court, the City Clerk was instructed on mo-
tion of- wiling and Miller to notify the Attorney General of the wale:
