The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date
at 3 p.m., pursuant to adjournment of August 14th, 1916, with
,'ayor Cooley presiding. Roll call as follows:
present: Congdon. Cooley, Henry, Jordan:, Miller, Mosher, Peterson,
Roller, Snyder. Swain, Thoits, Wing.
Absent: Ackley ,• Cramer, Vail.
Larkin Proposal. (Japanese
apWi.Y+.:1 e Tea House.
A proposition from Joseph Larkin, endorsed. by the Cham-
ber of Commerce, was presented by Attorney Lakin, relating; to the
acquisition of a Japanese building from the Exposition grounds, to
be located on land to be leased to Mr. Larkin by ;he city.
Wing and ,Henry :roved that the matter be referred to the
City Planning Commission with the approval of th i Council for re-
port.
A substitute motion by Jordan and Miller was passed au-
thorizing the City Clerk to write to the ..eyor of San Francisco to
ascertain whether said building. can be acquired.
Letter ,fro., G. D. Krause.
A letter from G. D. Krause relative to hie salary as
driver of the auto fire trues was laid on the table temporarily on
motion of Jordan and Miller.

Chairman Thoits of•Coz aittee #4 presented a report sub-
mitting a draft of the city budget for the fiscal year 1916-17,
and recommending its adoption._
Miller and Thoits :coved that the budget be cony ider ed in
detail and the motion was adopted.
°Ting and Congdon moved that the salary of the city .en-
gineer oe made $215.00 per xonth and the city electrician $165.00
per month. The motion was adopted..
A motion by Congdon and Mosher that the salary of the
driver of the -auto truck remain as fixed in the budF'et was .passed.
it was understood that if the city engineer can provide extra work
for said driver ► extra compensation will be allowed.
Mosher and 'filler moved that the saiarietif of three of
the engineers at the power plant be fixed at $105,00 a month, one
at V110.00 a month and one at $115.00 a month and the motion. was
adopted.
On motion of Jordan and Thoits the budget was adopted as
a w agile by unanimous vote on roll call.
