The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular e --
-sin on this date at 8 p.m., with Mayor Cooley presiding,. Roll
call as follows:
?resent: Cooley,• Henry, Jordan, Miller, Mosher, Peterson, Roller,
Snyder, Tboits, Wing.

The minutes of the regular meeting of July 10th, 1516 were
read and approved as read. The minutes of the Board of Ecualize.-
aion of August 7th 1916, ,w.ere read and approved as read.
Communications.
A letter from C. R. Hager, relative to cleaning up Block
89, was referred to. the Board of Public Safety on motion of Wing
and Snyder.
A letter from the Gamewell Fire Alarm Co. in relation to
adjusting the clock for the fire alarm system was referred to the
City Engineer.
A letter from City Attorney N. E. Malcolm concerning a
raise in salary was referred to Committee l.4 on motion of Win,; and

Reports approving Budget estimates for the fiscal year
1916-1917 were received from the City Planning Com,miss .on and from
Contittees Noe. 1, 2, and 3, and were referred to. Committee #4.

Ordinance #141, entitled "An Ordinance Amending Ordinance
'134 Providing. Additional Rules for the Collection of -Water, Light,
and Garbage Bills," was• given second reading and on motion of Win,?
and S.csher was adopted on roll call; all voting aye except t Snyder,
who voted no.

Rebate of License: Allowed.
A letter was ' received, fro.cr. Thomas Melody asking the
Council to Rebate to him, the amount paid for a peddlers a license,
he having discontinued peddling. On motion of Snyder and Mosher
the request was granted and. the auditor was directed to draw a
w?rra.nt in favor of. Mr. Melody in the sum of X20 by unanimous roe
on roll call.
Claim Referred to Committee 4,4.
The claim of the Universal Engineering Co. for amount -
of judgment costs and interest was received fr m the Board of Pub-
lic Works with the statement that said Board has no funds from
which to pay the same. On motion of Wing and Peterson the claim
was referred to Committee 44.

Election Proceedings to oe Prepared.
The City Attorney stated that a decision would aeon be
handed down by the . Sts; e Railroad Commission in the Palo Alto Gas
Co. case, and that it was advisable to hold a bond election as
soon as possible before starting condemnation proceedings in the
Superior Court. On motion of Wing and Peterson, the City Attorney
was authorized to draft the papers necessary for calling such elec-
tlon.

Wing moved that when the Council adjonrns it adjourn to
Monday, August 28th, 1916, at 8 p.m. The motion was seconded by
Peterson and passed by unanimous vote.
