The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular se$-
sior. on this date at 8 p.m., with mayor Swain presiding. e Roll caw
as follows:
Preaent: Ackley-, Congdon, Cooley, Henry, Jordan, Miller, Rosier,
Snyder, Swain, Thcits, Wing.
Absent: Cramer, Mosher, Peterson, Vail.
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 10. 29,6, and
of the adjourned meetings of April 18th and April 24th, 1916, Vend
read and approved as read.
Report on Purchase of Townsend ?roner;y-
Chairman Thoits of Committee #4 submitted a report re'
commending that the proposal of Mrs. S.S.Townsend to sell to the
city her property in Block -13, be referred to the City Planning
Commission for report, and that said Commission be requested to
-report on the matter of enlarging the City Ha11.
• On motion of Wing and Roller the report was accepted and
the recommendation adopted.

• Congdon moved that Percy C. Goode, certified accountant,
be employed to expert the books of the city at a salary of $250.
The motion was seconded by Thoits and passed by unanimous vote et
roll call.
Report of Committee on Su.:v v
Chairman Swain of the spec;.ai committee on the subway re-
ported that a meeting had been held with Mrs. Loretta. B. Hart in
regard to changing the location of the subway to :Hawthorne Aver=
and that she had asked until May 11, 1916, to give an answer.
On motion of Wing and Jordan the report was accented and
action in the subway matter postponed pending a reply from :rs.
hart.

This being the time set for opening sealed proposals er
bids pursuant to "Notice Inviting Street Work Propouale under Re-
solution of Intention Series #1, 1916, parsed February 28, 1916,
and Resolution #2, Series 1, 1916, Ordering Work Done, passed
April 24, 1916, the following sealed proposals or bids were opener•,

Reports Received.
The 'report of the City Treasurer for April, 1916, was
read and ordered filed.
The report of the Chief of Police on the operation of
�:e-municipal lodging house for the winter of 1915-16 was read
and accepted and its publication authorized.
The report of the, City Attorney en the hearing before
the State Railroad Commission in the valuation of the property of
the Palo Alto Gas Company was made verbally to the effect that
the hearing had been concluded and the ease is before the Con: -
mission on. briefs.
Purchase of Chair Authorized.
The City Engineer made report in the matter of ur-
chasing chairs for the Council Chamber and recommended, that
chairs costing $4.25 each be ,bought ,
On motion of Wing and henry the report was accepted
and the recommendation approved.
