The Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date
at 8 p.m., pursuant to adjournment of April 18th. 1916, with
Xayor Swain ;presiding. Roll call as follows: _
Present: Congdon, Cooley, Henry, Jordan, Miller, Mosher, Peter-
son, Snyder. Swain, Thoi te.

Communications.
Communications from the Rowe Co. and :::r. Cunningham,
relating to accounting, were referred to Committee #s.
An invitation from the City of San Rafael to the Coun-
cil and citizens to attend the 337th anniversary of the landing
in California of Sir Francis Drake, on :,;.ay 19-21, 1916. was re-
ceived and. the Clerk was instructed to answer the same.

A report from the City Planning Commission relative to
narrow roadways and wide parkings was received and ordered filed.
A report from the City Planning Coarrmisc ion recommend-
ing that the subway be located at hawthorne Avenue and that the
construction of said subway be expedited was accepted and ordered
filed.

A communication was read from the City Planning Commis-
sion asking that the City Council make an appropriation of S25
in its favor for incidental expenses.
Congdon moved that the appropriation requested be made
from the incidental and emergency fund of the genera. fund. The
motion was seconded by Peterson and passed by unanimous vote on
roll call.

The special committee to report on change of location
of subway (Swain, Malcolm and Byxbee) reported that the Southern
Pacific Company, the County Supervisors and the Trustees of
Stanford University were favorable to he change to :aw ;borne
Avenue, and that the.State Railroad Commission would modify its
order to that .effect when desired. No definite expression had
been given by Mrs. Loretta D. Hart.
On motion of Miller.and Henry the committee was con-
tinued until the next meeting.
On motion•of Con don and Mosher action on a resolution
relating to changenot. location of t ie. subway was postponed until
the next meeting.

Resolution Ordering Work Done (Passed).
A resolution. (Series 1, 1916) Resolution ij2, 1916, of
Bait Series), entitled: 'IA Resolution -of the Council of the City
o: Palo . Alto Ordering -Work to be l ne .Pursuant to Its Resolution
of intention, Series -1, 1916'" was introduced'and read.
On motion of li1ler and Cooley the date for receiving
bids was fixed for Mondaay, May 8, 1916, up to 8 o'clock p.m.
Congdon moved that the resolution be passed. The no-
tion was seconded by Peterson and adopted by unanimous vote on
roll call.
On motion of rhoits and Peterson the Council adjourned.
