The. Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date
-at J p.m. , pursuant to the following call.; mailed to 311 members
of the Council'.

Mayor Swain presided and roll call was as follows:
Present: Ackley, Congdon, Cooley, Cramer, Jordan, Miller, Mosher,
Peterson, Roller, Swain, T of ts.
Absent: henry, Snyder, • Vail, Wing.

The Mayor stated that a draft of a proposed lease of
land from the City to- the Federal Telegraph Company was before
the Council foe consideration. Said proposed lease :was read by
the City Clerk.
. Mosher and Cramer moved try t the lease be amended on
page 2, to provide that the lessee shall pay all taxes on im--
provemente, and on page, 3,- to provide ,that if the lease shall be
ex ended for a longer period than ten years the lessee shall. pay
!a yearly rental of all taxes levied against said demised tract
in addition to an amoun which bears same „r1a ti JCL to the
gross rental paid by, the City.... as one hundred and twenty-five
bears to one thousand and twenty." The motion was adopted by

On motion of Jordan and Moshe:. the Board of Public `,`forks
was asked to grant such permit.
Building Permit Authorized.
T. B. Downing addressed the Council in the matter of
building- permit to repair a shed on his property in
Committee on Shakespearean Festival.
Mayor. Swain spoke in reference to the plan of Yr. New-
berry to hold a three-day_.Shakespearear pageant in April next, and
stated that the . promoters desired a committee -from the -Council to
confer with them in regard to arrangements for the pageant.
On motion of Ackley and Peterson, Councilmen Cooley,
Swain and Cramer were named as such committee.
On motion of 1oosher and Ackley the Council. _adjourned.
