A RESOLUTION OF PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION

PROJECT $O. 58-1
RESOLVED; by thf COuct1 of the City of Palo-&1to, Cali-
fornia, that it does hereby preliminarily determine that the
public convenience and necessity require, and that it intends to
order the following work to be done, acquisitions and improvements
to be made in and for said City hereinafter described:
1. All of said work and improvements are to be had and con-
structed at the places and in the particular locations, of the
forms, sites, dimensions and materials, and to the lines, grades,
and elevations as shown and delineated upon the plans, profiles
sad specifications to be prepared therefor, and filed in the office
of the City Engineer in the City Hall of said City, reference to
which is hereby made for a full and detailed description of said
proposed improvements and for further particularsa
2. There ie hereby excepted from, the above work that which
is already done to line and grade and marked excepted or shown not
to be done on the plans, profiles and specifications.
3. All of said work shall be done under the supervision of
the City Engineer of the City of Palo Alto, and all of said work
and materials shall be done and furnished to hit satisfaction.
4. The work to be done, acquisitions and improvements to
be made are as follows:

(a) The improving of Amherst Street from College Avenue to
California Avenue, the northwesterly side of Seale Avenua from Barbara
Drive to Embarcadero Road, and the northwesterly side of Garland Drive
from Louis Road southwesterly about 190 feet by grading, removing trees,
bushes and existing structures and constructing or reconstructing Portland
cement concrete sidewalks.
(b) The improving of El Camino Way for its entire length, Vista
Avenue from El Camino Real to El Camino Way, the northeasterly side of
Dartmouth Street from Eton Park to Stanford Avenue, High Street from
California Avenue to Oregon Avenue, the southwesterly aide of Lupine
Avenue from Tract 1816 southeasterly 390 feet more or less, Orinda Street
from Fernando Avenue to Wilton Avenue by grading, removing trees, bushes
and existing structures, constructing or reconstructing Portland cement
concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveway aprons, storm water catch
basins, manholes and drain pipe, constructing crushed rock base pavement
with plant mix wearing surface, and constructing sanitary sewer, water and
gae services where required.
(c) The improving of the southwesterly side of Arboretum Road from
Willow Road to Quarry Road, Colorado Avenue from Greer Road to Bayshore
Frontage Road, Randers Court for its entire length, Arbutus Drive from
Tract 1816 to Tract 1580 and an unnamed street running approximately
parallel to and about 100 feet southeasterly of Matadero Canal from Ross
Road northeasterly 470 feet more or less, by grading, removing trees,
bushes and existing structures, constructing or reconstructing Portland
cement concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveway aprons, storm water
catch basins, manholes and drain pipe, constructing crushed rock base
pavement with plant mix wearing surface, installing electroliers with
conduit, conductor cable and pull boxes, and constructing sanitary sewer,
water and gas services where required.
(d) The opening and widening of James Road to a uniform 60 -foot
width from El Camino Way to the northwesterly extension of Wilkie Way, the
opening of Wilkie Way 60 feet wide, northwesterly to the James Road
extension, the widening of Amarillo Avenue to a uniform 60 -foot width
from the northeasterly edge of Greer Park to Bayshore Frontage Road, and
the improving thereof by grading, removing trees, bushes and existing
structures, constructing or reconstructing Portland cement concrete curbs,
gutters, sidewalks, and driveway aprons, storm water catch basins, manholes
and drain pipe, constructing crushed rock base pavement with plant mix
wearing surface, installing electroliers with conduit, conductor cable and
pull boxes, and constructing sanitary sewer, water and gas services where
required.
(e) The acquisition of easements necesoary to achieve a uniform
width of 80 feet along West Charleston Road from the S.P.R.R. ROW to
El Camino Real and the improving thereof, by grading, removing trees,
bushes and existing structures, constructing or reconstructing Portland
cement concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveway aprons, storm water
catch basins, manholes and drain pipe, constructing crushed rock base
pavement with plant mix wearing surface, and constructing sanitary sewer,
water and gas services where required.
(f) The improving of the northeasterjr side of Columbia Street from
Stanford Avenue to a point about halfway to College Avenue by grading,
removing trees, bushes and existing structures, constructing or reconstruct-
ing Portland cement concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks, and constructing
crushed rook base pavement and plant mix wearing surface.

5. Said contemplated acquisitions and improvements, in the
opinion of Obis Council, are of more than local or ordinary public
benefit, and the cost and expenses of doing said acquisitions and
improvement. and expenses incidental thereto, shall be made charge
able upon the district benefited- tblirehn the property se benefite

the map of said assessment district oa file tn the office of the
City Clerk, to which reference is hereby made for a more detailed
description thereof.
6. Notice is hereby given that serial bonds to represent
the unpaid assessments and bear interest at the rate of not to
exceed six per cent (67.) per annum, will be issued pursuant to
Part 4, Bond Plan C of Article IV of the Palo Improvement Procedur
Code, the last installment of which shall mature not to exceed
nine (g) years from the second'day of July next succeeding ten
months from their date.
7. Except as herein otherwise provided for the issuance of
bonds, all of the above proposed work shall be done in pursuance
of the provisions of Article V of said Palo Alto•Improvement Pro-
cedure Code.
8. Notice is hereby given that Monday, the 14th day of
September, 1959, at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P.M. at the Council
Chambers of the City Council of said City in the City Hall of
said City are hereby fixed as the time and place when and where an
and all persons interested may appear and show cause, if any they
have, why the Council should not find and determine that the publi
convenience and necessity require the improvements described and
referred to in this resolution, without further compliance with
the Special Assessment Investigation, Limitation and Majority
Protest Act of 1931.

9. The Clerk of the City of, Palo Alto shall give .otice of
the adoption of this resolution by publiehipg a Notice of Proposed
Local Improvement once in the Palo Alto Tim's, a daily newspaper
published and circulated in said City, and by posting4mmo on or
near the Council Chamber door of said Council, said posting and
publication to be had at least ten days before said dots of hearin;

resolution adopted by the Council of the City of Palo Alto,
California, at a regular meeting thereof held on the 244
day of August , 19 54 , by the following vote of
