: The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular
session on this date at 8 p.m., with Mayor Thoits. presiding.
Roll call as follows:
Present: Ackley, Congdon, Henry, ::ettijger, LaPeire, ?fil er,
Mosher, Peterson, Thoits, Vail, 'Ming.
Absent: Jordan, Lakin, Swain, Jan dervoort.
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 25, -1914,
were read and approved as read.

Appropriation for Librarian.
Guy C. Miller of the Public Library Board requested
appropriation be made to pay the expenses of the librarian
attending the annual meeting of the St —ate Library Association
San Diego.
Ora motion of Wing and Peterson it was ordered that an
appropriation for this purpose be made from the general :Fund not
to exceed $50, •by unanimous vote on roll call.
License Fee Remitted.

M. A. Buchan, president of the Chamber of Commerce, re-
quested that the license fee for entertainments be remitted -in

license charge be remitted by. unanimous vote on roll call.'.
Appropriation for Police Fund.
A communication was received from the Board of Public"
Safety requesting an -appropriation of :)75 for the police incident
al fund. On motion of Wing and Vail, it was ordered that .$75
be transferred from the general fund to the police incidental fund'

Report on Contract, Carbajee Crainanee introduced.
A .report was received .from the Board of Public Wore to
thetef 'ect that the Board found no reason to reconsider its ,felt

and Forest, Kingsley and Melville avenues be awarded to the ' r'
eral Construction Co,, recommending that further street pavingee
be started, the work to be done by the city; and submitting:a

The special committee named to secure measurements from
the curb of trees on the four streets to be paved presented a

a tabulated list of trees (21 in'number), recommending that all
the tees be removed except the tree in front of the Stanford
x.812 .dry on Forest avenue. Lakin presented a verbal ninori ty report
'recommending that only 10 .or 11 :of the trees be removed.
Ackley and- LaPeire moved that the majority report of the
