HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 3083ORIGINAL 0 11 RBSOLUTUN NO. 3063 OK OF TW CCTL' O ' T $ CITY 'PALO ALTO wpm= �,OCAl0N ' OF ]i 8 'FOR AWKITEKSZNS or THE SOUTH BAY AQUEDUCT WHEREAS, Santa Clara County has experienced and is experienc- ing an unprecedented influx of new residents, new industries, and an expanded agricultural economy which has magnified its present and future requirements for water; and WHEREAS, it is urgent and necessary to utilize all avail- able sources within and without the County to fulfill these requirements in order that critical shortages of water do not occur in this County; and WHEREAS, the valley floor is subsiding in the area of the northern part of Santa Clara County due to continued overdraft of water from underground sources; and WHEREAS, the State has determined to construct the South Bay Aqueduct for the purpose of transporting water to the Airpoint Reservoir in Santa Clara County and in other counties in proxi- mity to Santa Clara County. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palo Alto does earnestly request and urge the Governor, the Legislature, and the Director of the Department of Water Resources of the State of California to allocate sufficient monies in the State budget for the construction of Stage I of the South Bay Aqueduct Projects and for the acquisition of rights of way for that portion of the South Bay Aqueduct Project from the termination ,of Stage I to the Airpoint Reservoir in Santa Clara County. AND IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council does hereby request that.. the Director of the Department of Water Resources of the State of California be directed to take all other necessary F �j 1 steps to complete such facilities at the earliest possible time. ARID IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk be end she is hereby directed to send copies of this resolution to the fallowing: Governor Edmund G. Brown Harvey O. Banks, Director of Department of Water Resources Senator John F. Thomppon. Assemblyman Bruce R. Allen Assemblyman Clark L. Bradley Senator James J. McBride, Chairman of Senate Finance Committee Assemblyman Jesse M. Unruh, Chairman of Assembly Ways aad Means Cbsatittee Introduced and passed at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Palo Alto held March 23, 1959, by the following vote: AYES: Bishop, Byxbee, Cresap, Evans, Giffin, Marshall, Mitchell, Rodgers, Stephens, Woodwaid. NQES: None ABSENT: Corcoran, Davis, Nevis, Porter, lluppenthal. APPROVED: 2
