The Council of the City of. Palo Alto met in regular ses-
sj.on on this date at- 8 -p.m., with Mayor Thoits presidth . Roll call

The minutes of the meeting of Septe :cer r'th, 1913, were
read and approved as read.
Relatinie to Entrance :into Palo Alto.
Y.- A. Buchan, representing the executive Committee of
the Cha ber of Commerce, presented petition in regard to broad-
ening ,University Avenue between. Palo Alto and the 'county Road..
It was urged that the present road is too narrow, and az the U ni-
vtraity authorities are willing, to lease the necessary land for
widening this road, the Council was requested. to.take seeps to --
ward leasing this land.
W. H. Kelly reported on the meeting between Chamber of Com -
-; erce end University authorities., and it was his rs t;zr.d e6
that the land between County Road and Railroad property could be
leased at the rate of 4% on the assessed valuation. 1r. Kelly
stated that A. Vining had received a letter from V. . Newhall
approving the entrance proposition., The Chamber of Commerce ask-
ed the Council to appoint a committee to confer with the Unlver-
eity authorities and to.. take immediate steps toward the comple-
tion of proposed entrance. -
Mosher •a:nd :Jordan .;roved that request of Chamber of Com-
merce ''e granted and- that committee be appointed with power to
act._ The motion carried.

Peter' Suverkrup requested —that the premises adjoining
his property on Hale Street be cleared of palm leaves, etc., which
create fire hazard. Mr. Suveria°up was asked to furnish the.City
£s ineer with name of owner- of premises in question, aeon which
informationthe proper steps would be taken.

to prof. R.:c:. Swain as a member of the Council, calling attention
to tae complete failure of the Palo Alto Gas; Company to meet the

Upon motion of Wing and Vail, this matter was referred
t ae City. Attorney to take up with the Re lroad Commission.

Meinhard, complaining that his dog had been killed by the
