The Council of the City of Palo Alto met in regular ses-
sion on this date at 8 pe:r.., with7..ayor Jordan presirinc. Roll
call as follows:
Present: 'Ackley, Congdon, Henry, Hetti; :s; -r, Jordan, LaPeire,
Thoits, Umphreys, Vail, Vandervoort„ Wing.
Absent: Alien, Downing, Mosher, Swain„
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 14th, 1913,
and of the. adjourned regular meeting of May 3rd, 191 3, were read
and approved as read.
Petition for Permit --Regent.
H. J. Ross, contractor, addressed the Council in the
matter of building an addition to the Haskell building on Univer-
sity avenue. As the matter is under the control of the Board of
Public Works, no action was taken.
Committee No. 2. Given Further Time.
Chairman Vail of Committee No. 2 asked further time to re-
port an ordinance relating to pound. fees, which was granted.
Certified Accountant to be mp? oyes:.
On motion of Wi n , and Congdon, Committee No. 5 was au-
thorized to employ a certified accountant to examine the accounts
of the City for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1913, on the same
terms, as last year.
Resolution Declaring Beeult of :;lcc tier_ Councilmen.
The City Clerk presented the certified returns of the
election boards for the election held on May 12, 1913, to elect
sax members of the Council of the City of Palo Alto.
CouncilmenHettinger and Wing reported for the special
committee appointed to inspect the returns as shown by the voting
machines that the returns made by the election boards were correct,
the vote for the several candidates being ::.3 follows:

A resolution was adopted, on motion of Congdon and Het-
tinger, by unanimous vote, declaring ;erton Lakin, William F
Miller, R..ie Sw i ^., E. C.Thoits, and Walter E. Vail, elected members
of the Council for the term of six years, expiring on June 30, 19191
and H.tc.Peterson elected for the term of two ears, expiring June
30, 1915, and directing t"he City Clerk to issue certificates of
election to said candidates for said terms.

Ordinance No. 90, entitled "Governing the sale of tobacco
cigarettes or cigarette papers, or any preparation of tobacco in.
the City of Palo Alto," was recommended from Committee No. 2 by

Hettinger moved that Sections 1 and o of the ordinance be
changed to read "eighteen years" instead of twenty-one years." The
motion was seconded by `..sPeire and adopted by viva voce vote.+
