0n motion of Wing and Congdon, -the Clerk was instructed to
prepare each ,north a calendar of matters before t-ie Council which
have been referred. to committees or on which action :;eon post-
poned, and to provide a copy for each member of the Council.
Larkin Permit.
Joseph Larkin asked for a permit to raise the roof of his
building at 123 University avenue. Aa it would require a change in
the ordinance regulating the construction of buildings to grant the
recuest, no action was taken.

A communication from the Industrial Accident yar d stating
that the City comes automatically under the operation oft the " -
ployers' Liability Act" was received and on motion was ordered filed.

City and County of San ='ranci sco, asking that the City of Palo Alto
appoint a committee of three to act with committees fro:n o t hYr• cit-

Report on Pees.
City En.3neer Byxbee submitted a report, as :"ecuested
Cor::mittee No. 1, in the matter o` fees charged in the different
departments recommending that no ch.aa.6,es1 be made. On motion of
Wing and La Peire, the report was eecectee end ordered filed.
Report of Committ
Councilman Hettinzer submitted a report from Committee
No. ; with recommendations as follow*:
, That the matter of planting street trees and beautifying side-
walk spaces be taken up under the previsions of the Charter and
State .law, the Chamber of Commerce to aid_ in the work by securing
petitions from property owners. On motion of Jmphreys and Ackley
the recommendation was approved.
2. That Ordinance No. 6, be adopted.
3. That Ordinance No. 66 be adopted.
4. That the City Engineer report on the matter of securing a lot
for a corporation yard, the cost of building a fence at the pre-
sent lot and of keeping this lot in condition, On motion of het-
ti.nger and Hyde, the recommendation was adopted.
Report of Committee No.
Chairman Millis of Committee No. 4 reported that. in the
matter of water rates, to have been considered in January, data i$
now being collected by the City Engineer, and a report will be
made . at the next meeting.

City 'Attorney was in correspondence with the Palo Alto Gas Com-
pany in the matter of the 2 per cent franchise tax; that no re-
ply had been received from the Peninsular R R; Co., to the demand

ed from San _ateo County, due frtm onle of gravel.
Ordinance No. 65--Ga.,
Ordinance No. 65, entitled "An ordinance relatin,; to
the installing of gas pipe and fittings in the City of Palo Alto
and providing for the inspection thereof" was given second read-
ing and on motion of Wing and. Vail was ,':-,opted by unanimou vote o:
roll call.
