SHNMEAS, engineering studies and surveys tswdieste that the

known and+hsre*safter referred to as E1 Camino Real, is increasing
at an aooelersted rate; and
NIMMEA8, it is known that the continuing development of the
City of Palo Alto and adjacent areas will place a growing demand
>>pon that portion of El Canino Real whioh lies Within and serves
the City of Palo Alto; and
WINBEAS, Aim .Oog1eell it the City of Palo •Alto desires to insure
the improvement of the general condition, traffio-handling capabilities
and appearance of Ri Camino Real within the corporate limits of the
City of Pale. Alto; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto is aware of the
fact that the Division of Highways, Department of Public Works, State
of California, is being requested to undertake many warranted projects;
NOV, THEBEFONE, be it resolved that the Council of the City of
Palo Alto respectfully requests the Division of Highways, Department
of Public Works, State of California, to improve El Camino Real within
the corporate limits of the City of Palo Alto by widening the highway,
providin` . '(;4) traBBIelAsnes each way, two (2) parking lanes,
center dividing islands, curbs, gutters, storm drainage, appropriate
lighting and other concomitant improvements; and
HE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Palo
Alto, as an indication of its genuine interest in the improvement of
El Camino Real, does hereby announce and proolaim its willingness
to participate financially by Assessment District financing and City
contribution in the improvement of the highway in those instances
where such financial participation is the responsibility of the local
agency. Particularly, the City of Palo Alto will arrange the

financing, through Local Improvement Prooedurss, for the installation
of necessary ourbe, gutters and parking lanes having a width of
eight (8) feet, and will participate through these procedures in
financing the costs of drainage and lighting according to the pro •
-
visions of an agreement to be drawn between and acoepted by the City
of Palo Alto and the Division of Highways.
The above and foregoing resolution wee duly and regularly
iatroduoed and passed at a regular meeting of the Council of the
City of Palo Alto, held on Monday, the 25th day of August ,
1958, by the following vote:
Byxbes, Corcoran, Crosap, Evans, Marshall, Mitchell,
AYES: Navin, Porter, Rodgers, Stephens, Woodward.
NOBS: None.
ABSENT: Bishop, Davis, Giffin, Ruppenthal.
