The minutes of the regular meeting of August 14, 1911 and the ad- journed regular meeting of August 21, 1911, were red and approved as read. The minutes of the special meeting of September 1, i i i , were Tead and on notion of L iiiis and Mosher the minute on "deposit of :bond Fund" was changed to read, "with proper regard to the secur- ity." Matter of "ire District. J. F. Parkinson addressed the Council . on the matter of a permit for improvements on the Palo Alto hotel property and desired chan?e in the limits of the fire district. On motion of ai?1is and Lrmphreys the matter was referred to the Board of Public Works and Committee No. 2 for recommendation as to where the boundaries of the fire district should be fixed. Hyde moved that when the Council adjourn, it adjourn to the call of the '.°ayor. The motion was seconded by Hettinger and carried . Peti ;:ion from Manzanito C,:: co Y.Weef A. On motion of ';ing and Y.esher, the petition was granted by unanimous vote on roll call, provided that the City Attorney shall advise that the Council has the power so to do. Communications Received. A letter from the California League of Municipalities relative to the annual meeting of the League was read and ordered files . A letter from the Mayfield Chamber of Commerce was read relative to supplying electric lighting. for Mayfield. Thoits and IFing moved that the Clerk be instructed to notify said Chamber of Commerce that the City of -Palo -Alto would consider an agreement to deliver current to the end of its line in South Palo Alto for sale to the Town of '-ayfie1d. A substitute motion by Hyde, duly seconded, that the mat- ter be referred to the City Electrician to investigate and :; epor :: s adopted. _Reports r eceivee. The report of the Board of Public Works for July and the .reports of the Board of 1,ubl.i c Safety, the City Treasurer and the City Auditor for august were received and ordered filed. A communication from the Jewel Theatre axing the privi- ledge of esirg ;Motors to operate moving picture machine, was read "'lo on motion of Unphreys and Wing ordered filed. 14 Ordinance No. t',7--Nickel- Ordinance No. 57 entitled "An Ordinance prohibiting nickel -in -the -slot machines," was introduced and on motion of and }_yde was adopted as an emergency ordinance by unanimous vote on roll call. Ordinance No. 58 —Violation of Ordinances. Ordinance No. 58, entitled 'An Ordinance providing that the violation of ordinances shall be deemed a misdemeanor subject to fine and imprisonment" was introduced and on motion of Thoits and Hettinger was adopted as an emergency ordinance by unanimous vote on roll call. Ordinance No. 59, amending Article 2, Part 2, of Cod- ified Ordinance No. I of the City of Palo Alto, relating to busi- ness licenses, was given second reading and on motion of Millis `. and Mosher was adopted by unanimous vote on roll call. Ordinance No. 60. Police Judge Salary. Ordinance No. 60, entitled °''Relating to Police Judge was introduced and on r.o tion, duly seconded, was adapted as an emergency ordinance by unanimous vote on roll call. y:ercber of Library Board Elect - The Mayor announced that the election of a member o: the Board of Public Library to fill the . ncancy caused by the resigna- tion of P. W. Sherman was in order. A motion by Mosher and Wing that the Council proceed to elect by secret ballot without nomina- tions was adopted. The Mayor appointed :'yde and 7i xis Tellers.
