The Council of the City of PaloAlto
at 8 p.m., in accordance with the provisions
City of Palo Alto.
The City Clerk called the Council t
that the oath of office had leen taken by the

Election of Mayor.
The Clerk stated that the first business would be the e-
lection of a mayor. Gillis and Hettinger moved that the Council
proceed to elect a mayor by secret ballot without nominations, and
the motion was adopted. Councilmen Hettinger and La Peire were
appointed to act as tellers.
The ballot resulted. as. follows: C. -..Jordan 10 votes;

cil for the honor conferred upon him. He commended the. successful
tidministration of the past fiscal year and expressed the hope that

Millie and Congdon moved that the Council proceed to the

The election of a member of the Board of Public Safety to
accee,d P. B. Simpson, term expired, resulted as follows:

The Mayor declared.lr. Woodard elected and on motion of
-illiv and. Hettinger the election was made unanimous.
The election of a member of the Board of Public Library to
succeed Julia R. Gilbert, term expired, resulted in 12 votes being

Millie and Vail moved that the Council proceed to the
election off' City C"+erk, Audi -tor, Treasurer, City Attorney and Deputy
Auditor by. secret ballot and t'r: :: motion was adopted.
The ballot for City Clerk resulted in 1.2 votes being cast
- for Frank Kasson and. he was. declared elected by the Mayor.
The ballot for -Auditor resulted in 12 votes being cast
for C.H. Jordan and he was- declared. elected. by the Mayor.
The ballot for Treasurer resulted in. 12 votes being cast

The ballot for deputy Auditor reenited in 13 votes being,
cast for 17. A. Westall, and the : ayox declared '.ise ti'estall elected,
The 'oallotting for Police judge resulted an follows:
First Ballot: Frederick Schneider 7 votes; ::onroe 4'homa, 5 votes;
Walter Rodgers, 1 vote.
Second Ballot: Frederick Schneider, 7 vote Monroe Thomas o vote'
Third Ballot: Frederick Schneider :

The Mayor declared Lr. Thomas elected and on motion of
Millis and La Peire the election wao made unanimous.

The resignation of F. W. Snerman :' a member of the
Board of Public Library, said resignation to take effect on or
before August 1, 1911, was read, and on motion of ;ring and La Peire
the resignation was laid on the table'. until ..". e August meeting.
Salaries of Officials.

(Hettinger and ...a Peire move; to amend by making the sal-
ary of the Auditor $150,00 per month, that of the Clerk $115.00
per month; and that of the Attor-r,ey$125.00 per month.
The amendment was lost on roll call by the following vote:

Completion of Assessment Roll,
The City Clerk submitted a report in t .e matter of tr.e
completion of the Assessment moll for t:.e fiscal year 1;11-1912 and
on motion of bill i s and Condon the report was accepted and ordered
filed.
Jmphrey s and La Peire moved an adjournment, but the mo-
tion failed of adoption.

Councilman 'Thoits made a partry el report for the auditing
and accounts committee showing that theexpendituresfor the fis-
cal year 1910-1911 were approximately $2000.00 less than the ap-
propriations made.
Mayor Jordan stated that he would announce the personnel
of the Counci:, Committees at a later date.
Councilman Vail spoke in commendation of the work of the
Board of Public Works and the Cite r„ ag7 nEeer in having the side-
walks and vacant lots cleaned from weeds and ru-7ish and said the
City had never been in a better physical condition.
Mosher and Millis moved an adjournment but the motion
failed of adoption. `
Appropriation for Screens,
Councilman Wing moved that an appropriation not to ex-
ceed y50,00 be made for window and door screens for the City
The motion was seconded by Vail and adopted by unanimous vote on
rolicall.
Councilman Millis was granted a leave of absence of 60 d 3's.
