Thornton, Chairman of Citizens' Committee for _La;nds c.aping Oregon Avenue., who was present at, the meeting; to -read the report s.dbrnitted by the comrnitte4 on landscaping Oregon, Avenue A: cop, cif the report had been distributed to' each Council member prior to the meeting;. The Committee.. recommended unanimously, after considering and interviewing a number of architects, the appointment by the City Council of; Mr; Douglas Baylis a's the landscape architect for the Oregon Avenue project, and requested t'z-at the City Manager be instructed to prepare an appropriate landscape architect contract. The Committee_ reported that they wouldcontinue to work with the selected architect. The Committee also.'recommended an increase in the budget originally proposed. The Mayor expressed the Council's appreciatiation for the splendid work done by the committee andfor the marry hours they had spent in doing th;i:s work. Discussion followed regarding the cost of the landscaping. It w;, pointed out that $50,'*00 had been set aside for landscaping the expr,es way and that additional -funds : could come out of the Capital :Improvement Fund of the City,of Palo Alto. The City Manager stated he had discussed the matter"of costs with Mr. Baylis. It •,vas. the City Manager's suggestion that the Council proceed on the $50,000 plan submitted and determine ata later crate, when more cost information would be available any additional amounts necessary to be bt.idgeteci for the project. E.1 Camino Annexation No. 6 The hearing of protests by property owners to the proposed annexation of certain inhabited territory designated as "El Camino Anne.acation No. 6" and matters relating to the zoning of the area, had been continued from October 8, 1962 to this date. The Mayor declared the hearing open on the proposed annexation. He called attention to the fact that, there rs very little available land in the area for a park site. CouncilmanZweng stated there had been previous dis- cussion about drainage problems and the amount of fill which would be needed for the park site, and Councilman Rus advised that the residential :area surrounding.the recommended park site is low: that in order to get proper drainage for the park a certain amount of ,fill wouldbe necessary; which would make the surrounding area lower and would create' problems,.
