Hoover Elementary School on Middlefield Road, and further requesting; that (1) the increase in size of the commercial zone be withheld or, (2) if the increase of the cornrnercial zone is granted, that the design control as recommended by: the Planning Commission include a thorough study with respect to achoo1 traffic, and that representatives of the School. The Mayor also acknowledged and read, a letter from merchants in the area (Midtown Market, Duca and Hanley, Purity Stores and Supermarket Basket), protesting the zone change which they statewould allow the Safeway Stores to open a new market on Colorado Avenue near. Councilman.Cresap stated that he would not like to see a unanimous decision of the Planning Commission turned down without further. :study, and that he had understood that interested partiesfelt they had not had an adequate opportunity to be, heard by the Planning .Commission. Councilwoman Dias stated for the record that she had received a communication from the Herbert Hoover Parent- Teacher Association protesting the proposed rezoning. In answer to questions from council members as to the procedure..'• Mrs. Philip Towle,Chairman of the Planning Commissr n,advised that the regular procedure had been followed and that the hearing ia,d been duly advertised. She commented that the Commissior, proposes to hold another hearing on an additional parcel of property along San Carlos Court which they feel should be'included .m the "D" (design control) designation.
