During the ensuing discussio4, Mr. Hewlett and Dr. E. Dwight
Barnett, Hospital Administrator; answered questions raised by Council members
regarding operating costs -and procedures. Dr. Barnett advised that the
combining of the Palo Alto and Stanford OB department will provide from 64 to
72 obstetrical beds as -compared with 42 in the existing hospital. Dr. Barnett.
stated that Palo Alto physicians would have complete control over any of their
:patients who might be assigned to the Stanford pavilion or used for teaching
purposes. It was pointed out in the discussion i;hat the agreennents between
-Stanford and the City provide that f the Palo Alto Pavilion is filled to capacity,
Palo Alto patients can lise the Stanford Pavilion. (See amendment on page 427)
A motion was made. by Cresap, seconded by Navis, that the Council
approve the rec'omrnendation of the Hospital Board that steps be taken immedi-
ately to place both Palo Alto and Stanford obstetrical and gynecological services
in the new building, 'with the understanding that Stanford University will
participate in the cost of making-thenecessary changes in the amount of
$io,-000.'00.
The Assistant City Manager suggested an addition to the motion
for the authorization of transfer of funds in the amount of $100,000.00 from the
Hospital Improvement Fund to the Hospital Construction Fund and the sure of
$90,000.00 from the. Sales Tax Fund to the Hospital Construction Fund, to
finance the City's share of the cost of .the. work.
The motion was arnendedto include the transfers of funds as
suggested,and as amended the motion was carried by unanimous vote of, all
Council members` present (Davis was absent during the roll call.)
The meeting wa..s declared adjourned at 8:20 P. M.
