- Attention was called to the ordinance Adopted, by:"the
°Council on April 28, 1958, changing this street name which had been
!re:comrended,by : the Planning Commission It WA s explained by the
Planning -Officer that: -due tosubdivision development in the area,
.Moreno. Avenue had 'beenextended northeasterly to Greer Road and from
thatepoint the street- ' was:; called Elmdale Drive; that it had been
:pointed:: out to ,.the 'Planning _Commission by the Fire Chief and 'others.
that it _wou id be logical, to ; continue the name of Moreno Avenue:, and
for this reason -the, change had been recommended.
-The'Coun.cl agreed that this change of street name should
stand, land,. naked the City Manager to reply to the letters and esx- J
plain why the, action was taken.
Bus', Trarisporta Lion And . Rates
A letter:was received from Mrs. Josephine O'Hara, 1119
,Byron .Street,' concerning the recent increase in bus fares, and
Asking .the Couacile.to consider municipally owned buses or the grant-
,ing of A: subsidyto local bus company so that more reasonable
fares could be charged .
The.. Mayor commented that the bus company has made requests
a number of times,. -.for a, subsidy but the City Attorney has advised
that 'the City -cannot legally subsidise the bus company. - He stated
that the #rhol,e bus _transportation problem is under study, ancd sug-
gested that Mrs O'Hara be so informed.

ly proposed with the:understan;ing that a 5 -foot easement for utili-;
ties and planting would ;be' provided on the southerly side of the
treat.
A motion wa:s made by Byxbee, seconded by Cresap, that the:
plan lforextensiOnot the, street from El Camino Real to Wilkie Way.,:
b.e adopted as a condition' -for the development of the area, including
the properties,: of George..Tsukugawa and of Short and Schmidt.
Reference` was made to the previous recommendation of the
?1 .ruing Commission. for approval of the tentative map of Eleanor
Court, subject-to.the following conditions: 1) that the street.name
shown on the ma,;p,be::changed; 2) that a public utilities easement'be
provided across.ndjoining property owned by Short and Schmidt at the
"end'of.Wilkie„ ".ay; and 3) that the first 15 feet from the rear
;property line be dedicated to the Santa Clara County Flood -Control,
.District::with the balance_of right-of-way required by the Flood
Control District to be reserved for future acquisition by the District.
There was considerable discussion of the street development
`and traffic circulation problems, grid consideration was given to the
proposed, through street as recommended by Committee No. 1 and to -the
-proposed long cul-de-sac to serve: the subdivision as shown on the
tentative'map_.and As: recommended by the Planning Commission. It was
-pointed 'out*by E. _V. 4rb'uckle, vice: chairman of the Planning`>Com-
mis.si,o;n., that., the Commission: -dohs not feel that Wilkie Way should- be
extended to ,ma ke . a. through :street .
Mr.. Fra"nk Crist, attorney for the developers of the: sub-
diy si'on, :addressed tre:.Council . stating that they are willing, to
"a.ccept..a. -:reasonable plan and -to Abide by . the conditions :;re.commended
by.the "P1Rnni'ng; Commission for dedication of land to the Flood .

of :property :on the;..soUtherly:-`corner .of Birch and -Sherman in place of
the westerly` corner as previously authorized. , The committee advised
