RESOLUTION NO. 4351
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR THE LONG AND FAITHFUL
SERVICE RENDERED TO THIS CITY BY WILSON M. MERRIAM
WHEREAS, in recognition of the long, faithful and devoted
services of WILSON M. MERRIAM, Fire Chief of the City of Palo
Alto, this Council wishes to express its sense of personal loss
at the death of Chief Merriam on March 24, 1970.
WHEREAS, Chief Merriam's high-minded sense of duty to his
profession and to the public, his sense of mission in his work
to enlighten and safeguard this community established a record
of achievement which is a source of inspiration for those who
follow. He brought unusual vision and diligence to his work.
Ee was admired and honored throughout the fire fighting services,
and was held in great affection by his men and others who knew
him and is deeply mourned by all.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto
RESOLVES as follows:
That the Council hereby gratefully records its appreciation
as well as the appreciation of the citizens of this community
for the exemplary services of WILSON M. MERRIAM and directs the
City Clerk to transmit a copy of this resolution to Mrs. Merriam
and extends to her and to the members of Chief Merriam's family
its expression of sympathy.
