HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 43450 ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 4345 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO SUPPORTING THE GOAL OF UNIFORMITY IN BUILDING CODES WHEREAS, the County of Santa Clara is rapidly becoming urbanized and it is highly desirable that all new construction comply with modern health and safety standards, and WHEREAS, those involved with the actual construction of our communities frequently build in more than one municipality within the county and thus are subject to numerous conflicting building requirements in the various jurisdictions, and WHEREAS, one of the objectives of this Council is to lower the cost of construction of residential units, and WHEREAS, achieving uniformity of codes can contribute to the lowering of the cost of construction without impairing the quality or safety of such construction, NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: 1. The Council urges the Inter -City Council to coordinate efforts toward the mutual adoption of basically consistent con- struction codes by all enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County, and the establishment of realistic timetables by which the individual jurisdictions should consider and adopt newly published uniform codes. 2. The Council hereby supports the Inter -City Council in this activity and announces its intention to give prompt and con- tinuing attention to uniform code propcsals so as to accomplish the goals of this program.
