RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING PORTIONS OF UTILITY RULE AND REGULATION NO. 1
AND SCHEDULE G-1 AND DELETING SCHEDULE G-1-0 OF THE
CITY OF PALO ALTO UTILITIES RATES AND CHARGES
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as fol-
lows:
Pursuant to Section 12.20.010 of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code:
SECTION 1. A portion of Rule and Regulation No. 1 of the
Palo Alto Utilities Rules and Regulations is hereby amended to
read as set forth in Sheets 9a and lla attached hereto and by
reference made a part hereof.
SECTION 2. A portion of Schedule G-1 of the Palo Alto
Utilities Rates and Charges is hereby amended to read as set
forth in Sheet 116g attached hereto and by reference made a part
hereof.
SECTION 3. Schedule G -1-O, as shown on Sheet 117e of the
Palo Alto Utility Rates and Charges is hereby cancelled.
SECTION 4. The Table of Contents of said schedules of
Rates and Charges is amended to read as set forth in Sheet 100i
attached hereto and by reference made a part hereof.
SECTION 5. The foregoing changes shall become effective
at the commendement of the April, 1970, billing cycle.

(3) PRESSURE:
Water pressure will vary from 30 to 70 pounds per square
inch; an average of 50 pounds per square inch will be
maintained, with the maximum and minimum pressures being
experienced at the lower and higher elevations of the
distribution system.
(4) TREATMENT:
Chlorine is applied in sufficient quantities, as provided
in the State of California Health and Safety Code, to in-
sure that the water supplied is free from bacterial
contamination.
C. GAS:
(1) KIND AND HEATING VALUE:
The gas supplied by the City is natural gas purchased
from the Pacific Gas and Electric Company and is obtained
from the earth in various oil and gas fields either ad-
jacent to its lines or from Texas and may consist of any
combustible gas or gases so produced altered only by re-
moval of any condensible constituents or of injurious
impurities and by the addition of a warning odorant.
The heating value of natural gas as supplied by the Pac-
ific Gas and Electric Company will vary from time to time
depending upon the fields being drawn upon, and at times
of insufficient supply of straight natural gas, some
artificial gas may be supplied or mixed with the natural
gas. The average monthly heating_.-1ue in British Thermal
Units (Btu) --dry basis --per cubic foot of the natural gas
served may be expected to vary within the limits of 900
to 1150 Btu.

(3) DETERMINATION OF THERMS TO BE BILLED:
The cubic feet of gas consumed is converted by a multiplier
to therms for purpose of billing. This therm multiplier for
meters registering in units of 100 cubic feet (Ccf) shall be
established annually at the beginning of the fiscal year.
This factor shall be determined by dividing the total number
of therms charged to the City by the supplier in the preceding
year by the actual 100 cubic foot (Ccf) units of gas delivered
to the City.
D. SEWER:
The City maintains a sanitary sewer system for the disposal of
domestic commercial, and industrial wastes.
For the disposal of wastes from basements and floors below ground
level, it will generally be necessary for the customer to provide
pumps or ejectors for satisfactory drainage.
LIMITATION ON SERVICE:
The City reserves the right to limit the size of connection and the
quantity of wastes disposed and to prohibit the use of the sewer for
disposal of wastes detrimental to the sewerage system or treatment
plant.

E. GARBAGE AND REFUSE COLLECTION:
All garbage is collected by a private company under contract with
the City. This contract and Codified Ordinance No. 5 establish
specific rules and regulations by which the collection service
operates.
One collection per week is required of all occupied premises. An
occupied premises is one at which utility services are being
rendered.
The City is divided into districts; each customer receives collec-
tion service on a certain day each wee::. At times, because of
breakdown or illness, refuse may be collected late in the day or
on another day.
When the amount of garbage and refuse exceeds the capacity of two
32 -gallon cans, it will be necessary for the customer to request
additional collection service, for which an additional charge will
be made.
Refuse too bulky to be placed in 32 -gallon cans or excessive amounts
will be removed by the City Contractor upon request and at the
customer's expense.
