HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4322r • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 4322 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO OPPOSING PROPOSED MARINA IN MENLO PARK WHEREAS, a fill application (#23-69) has been requested of Bay Conservation and Development Commission for construction of a marina south of willow Road approach to Dumbarton Bridge, Menlo Park, including park, boatel, restaurant and related facilities on a 100 acre site; and WHEREAS, this proposal includes 20 acres of fill, 1.5 acres of building, and 80 acres of dredging; and WHEREAS, said proposal would further hamper the already restricted tidal action in the South Bay; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto has dedicated Byxbee Park and City -owned Baylands totaling some 1,900 acres for park, playground recreation or conservation purposes; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto has recently formally dedicated a Baylands Interpretative Center; and WHEREAS, hinderance of tidal action may have a negative influence on Byxbee Park and the City -owned Baylands; and WHEREAS, reduction of tidal action will have an adverse affect on the improvement of water quality in the South Bay, thereby negating the efforts of Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Los Altos to improve their waste water treatment facilities; and WHEREAS, further impairment of South Bay water quality will seriously jeopardize future conservation and development of the South Bay. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Palo Alto is opposed to any development in the vicinity of the Dumbarton Narrows which will hamper, restrict, hinder or in any way adversely affect tidal flow and action in the South Bay. eG. l/ ,a�so —Te /,',rig, ,,G —el er-,, , ,7 i • • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Palo Alto is directed to forward copies of this Resolution to San Francisco District Engineer, U. S. Army Corp of Engineers, San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, Bay Conser- vation and Development Commission, City of Mountain View, City of Los Altos, and City of Menlo Park.
