HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4306ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 4306 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL Ox' THE CITY OF PALO ALTO ENDORSING RECOMMENDATION OF INTERJURISDICTIrNAL COMMITTEE FOR ALIGNMENT OF A PORTION or RflUTE 84, AND REQUESTING CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO REOPEN ROUTE LOCATION STUDIES WHEREAS, on March 28, 1962 the California Highway Commission adopted the routing for that portion of Route 84 generally be- tween the westerly end of Dumbarton Bridge and the Juninero Serra Freeway (U.S. Route 280), and WHEREAS, the general configuration and alignment of the adopted routing are not unanimously acceptable to the local jurisdictions involved, and WHEREAS, for the past 35 months, an interjurisdictional co!n- mittee with representatives from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, and Leland Stanford Junior University have been exploring alternative proposals, and WHEREAS, the interjurisdictional committee has unanimously endorsed and recommended the general configuration and alignment of an expressway for that portion of Route 84 generally located between U.S. Route 101 and U.S. Route 280, and WHEREAS, said expressway will permit the development of a much needed facility which will enhance traffic movements and orderly growth for the local jurisdictions involved, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of t:.e City of Palo Alto does hereby endorse the general configuration and alignment of an expressway for that portion of Route 280 generally located between U.S. Route 101 and U.S. Route 280 as recommended by the interjurisdictional committee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palo Alto does hereby request that the California Highway 1 Me Commission reopen route location studies for Route 84 for the area gererally between the westerly end of Dumbarton Bridge and Junipero Serra Highway (U.S. Route 280) as a road to be built to expressway standards. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the California Highway Commission.
