RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO IN OPPOSITION TO APPLICATION NO. 51305 OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY BEFORE THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION WHEREAS, the Southern Pacific Company has applied to the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California to amend its Peninsula commutation tariff to eliminate the provision per- mitting the cash fare paid to the conductor to be applied toward the purchase price of a monthly, weekly or twenty -ride commute ticket, and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto recognizes the vital role that the Southern Pacific Company plays in pro- viding commuter service between the City of Palo Alto and neighboring cities, and WHEREAS, the Southern Pacific Company recently has received authority to close its Palo Alto station at 6:00 p.m. rather than the previous closing hour of 10:00 p.m., thereby limiting the ability of commuters to avail themselves of said commute service, NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. The Council hereby registers its opposition to Application No. 51305 of the Southern Pacific Company before the Public Utilities Commission. SECTION 2. The City Clerk is hereby -directed to send a certi- fied copy of this resolution to the Public Utilities Commission. INTRODUCED AND PASSED: October 6, 1969.
