HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4275• � ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 4275 RESOLUTION OF'THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO OAXACA FOR PARTICIPATION IN PALO ALTO'S DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION WHEREAS► the year 1969 marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the incorporation of Palo Alto as a City, and WHEREAS, the Municipality of Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca, Mexico, Sister City affiliate with Palo Alto, participated by the sending of their Queen, Srta. Letitia Figueroa, as the official City representative; and WHEREAS, Oaxaca further paid its respects to Palo Alto by' hosting the Cubberley High School Band and Chorale in Oaxaca, and further provided homes for a group of the student musicians during their stay in Oaxaca; and WHEREAS, this generous participation by Oaxaca exemplifies the mutual objective of the two cities, that of attempting to encourage and cultivate understanding between the people of the two communities; and WHEREAS, Srta..Letitia Figueroa was a splendid representa- tive of Oaxaca, giving Palo Altans the opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the citizens of our Sister City; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. On behalf of the people of Palo Alto, we express our heartfelt appreciation to the people of Oaxaca for their warm and significant participation in Palo Alto's 75th anniversary celebration. SECTION 2: 'The Council of the City of Palo Alto expresses its especial appreciation to Mayor Dr. Jorge Perez Guerrero, Councilman Jorge Gonzalez Sanchez, and Sr. Carlos Hamilton C., Chairman of the Oaxaca Sister City Committee, for their c • • encouragement and cultivation of the objective of the sister city program. SECTION 3. The City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to each of the officials and personages named herein.
