HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4274• • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 4274 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO PALO, LEYTE, THE PHILIPPINES FOR PARTICIPATION IN PALO ALTO'S DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION WHEREAS, the year 1969 marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the incorporation of Palo Alto as a City, and WHEREAS, the Municipality of Palo, Leyte, the Philippinees, Sister City affiliate with Palo Alto, participated by the sending of their Queen, Miss Maria Elena Puertollano, as the official City representative, accompanied by her sister, Miss Azucena Puertollano; and WHEREAS, Palo further paid its respects to Palo Alto by the gift of two wooden sculptures, hand carved by the Vice Mayor of Palo, Mr. Jeremiah (Miyak) Acebedo, representing the Seal of the Municipality of Palo, Leyte, the Philippines, and a representation of the sister city program symbol of friend- ship between the two sister cities, Palo and Palo Alto; and WHEREAS, this generous participation by Palo exemplifies the mutual objective of the two cities, that of attempting to encourage and cultivate understanding between the people of the two communities; and WHEREAS, Miss Maria Elena Puertollano and Miss Azucena Puertollano were splendid representatives of Palo, giving Palo Altans the opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the citizens of our Sister City; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. On behalf of the people of Palo Alto, we express our heartfelt appreciation to the people of Palo for their warm and significant participation in Palo Alto's 75th - 1 - • • anniversary celebration. SECTION 2. The Council of the City of Palo Alto expresses its especial appreciation to Mayor Antonio M. Ogayan, Vice Mayor Jeremiah Acebedo and First Giant Juan Tismo for their encouragement and cultivation of the mutual objective of the sister city program. SECTION 3. The City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to each of the officials and personages named herein.
