On motion of Cummings and Byxbee, the recommendation for denial of the application'wss adopted. Application for Zone Change, Middlefield and Loma Verde (Nisi) A.report vas received -from:: the Planning Commission re- commending denialcf the application; of Enrico and Evelyn Nisi for change, of zone from "R-1, Single ,Family Residence District, General .Commercial; District, of: a portion of .Lot 51, C. M. Wooster; Subdivision., located -on the northwest corner of Middlefield Road and Lois Verde Avenue:. The:Commission reported that its denial was based or the grounds that the proposed use would not be bene ficial to the surrounding residential area. A motion was made by Mitchell, seconded by Cummings, that the recommendation of tre:Planning Commission be accented. Mr.. Frank Crist, representing the anolicants, asked per -- mission to present their case at this time or to appear before a committee, if the matter is referred to a committee. Councilman Porter, Chairman of Committee No. 1, advised . that an application.for change of zone on the southwest corner of. Middlefield Road.and Loma Verde Avenue is also under consideration by the Planning Commission, and suggested that the application of Mr. and Mrs. Nisi be held over until the Planning Commission has reported on the -other request so that both can bra considered at the same time-. • The motion to accept the Planning Commission's recom- mendation was withdrawn. On motion of Porter and Mitchell, the matter was referred to Committee. No. 1 for consideration, after the Fanning Commission has submitted its report and recommendation on the application for: change of zone on the other -corner, the committee to consider both applications at the same time. Interchange' with the Alpine-Sandhill Road extension on -the Stanford- lands in order to provide a through route for inter -city traffic; and further resolving that this end can best be served by the inclusion of thisHroute intheState Highway System so that' determination of the moat logical; exact location for completion of' said route, precise engineering of the structures required, and construction -may proceed at an early date. Committee''No. l'reported that it concurred in recommending that the Council adopt as a principle the need for a connection be- tween the Willow Road-Bayshore Freeway Interchange and the Alpine- Sandhi7l Road extension. The Plan- ning Officer read a letter which Harold Wise, planning, consultant, had received from an Assembly Committee of the State Legislature rel.ative to the procedure for designation of routes in the State Highway System. Mr. C. R. Pettit, 390 Palo Alto Avenue, spoke in opposi- tion to the extension of any ':route.. through Palo alto which would take his property and other homes in that area. Mr. R. B. hackley ob ;acted to nutting the road through Palo Alto, and Mr. Denis Baker, a, resident on Palo Alto Avenue, asked that the quest ion be very carefully considered before any . action is taken.
