A report .was received from Committee No. 3 recommend w ce,
in view of Mr. L. E. Taylor's retirement as City Assessor on
January 1, -1955,` that a vote of appreciation be given to him for
his long and excellent service to the C:;.tj. On ;notion of Mitchell,
and Huston, the Council extended to Mr. Taylor a unanimous vote of
appreciation for his .Services.
Assessing Policy
A report was received from Committee It'o . 3 rec r;mendin,,
that 'the Council continue the present assescinT, policy of having
the City aeseeement performed by its own assessor and not by the
County. Councilman M_.tci7ell, Chairman of Committee Yo. ;, ad-
vised that the °Council mast make a decision trout delay; Of •the
C'ty continues with it's- own assessing, a ;successor to Mr. Taylor
ill hove to be appointed. The alternative lc to transfer the
aztiescin; and tax collecting functions to the County -7hich handle
the arsescing for most -of the cities in the County It was nointec
out that there would be a saving :n cost to the taxna;lers over a.
period of years- if the work is :transferred to the County. Coun-
cilman Mitchell •reported that Committee No. 3 had considered the..
cuestion and that the vote on the recommendation n:aso to the Coen-'
cell was 3 to 2. On behalf of the committee, it was moved by M_t-
c.oel l that the recommendation to continue the ore:se - t o ecess' n
