RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
"SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF TFIE SKYLINE REGIONAL SCENIC
RECREATION ROUTE AND AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION BY THE
• COUNCIL IN A COMMITTEE CONSIDERING FORMATION OF A JOINT
POWERS AGENCY
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto has consistently"
supported efforts designed to protect the Santa Cruz Mountains and
particularly the ridge line thereof as a scenic and recreational
resource; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto has supported
efforts to prevent disturbance of the environment and has supported
efforts to enhance the aesthetic and recreational values of the
area; and
WHEREAS, by Resolutions 3909, 3971 and 4108, among other actions,
the City of Palo Alto has supported and urged the designation of
roads through the Santa Cruz Mountain area as official state scenic
highway and as a Skyline National Parkway.
NOW, THEREFORE, 'BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of
Palo Alto endorses the concept of a."Skyline Regional Scenic Route"
along the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor be and he hereby is author-
ized to appoint a member to the proposed committee (consisting of a
representative of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and
of the Santa Clara County Counsel's Office and from the Counties of
San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Cruz, among others) to work out
.a jgint exercise of powers agreement to plan and implement such a
scenic route, working together with all of the counties, cities and
other jurisdictions involved in the area.
BE IT FURTITER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to send
copies of this resolution to the following persons or agencies:

Director, State of California Department of Parks and Recreation;
District Engineer, District IV, State Division of Highways; Mr.
George Dean, Chairman, San Mateo Parkways and Scenic Roads Com-
mittee; Boards of Supervisors and County Counsels of San Francisco,
San Mateo, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara; Mr. Darrell Husum, State
Scenic Highways Coordinator of the State Division of Highways,
Sacramento, and such other persons as may request a copy of this
resolution.
