RESOLUTION NO. 4522 CRIGINAL - RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING RESOLUTION 2971 TO PROVIDE FOR SATURDAY PARKING WITHOUT TIME LIMITATION OR PARKING CHARGES FOR THE AREAS GENERALLY DRSIGNATED AS THE UNIVERSITY AVENUE AREA, CALIFORNIA AVENUE AREA, AND MIDTOWN BUSINESS AREA The Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as fol- lows: SECTION 1. Commencing January 1, 1972, or when appropriate signs are in place, whichever is sooner, parking all day on Saturdays without time limitation or payment of parking charges shall be permitted in those certain parking-meter zones and time-limited parking zones located on streets, in city-owned or city-leased parking lots, and in the Civic Center parking facility within the following areas: (a) The zones in the area bounded·by Alma Street, Hawthorne Avenue, Middlefield Road and Addison Avenue, more commonly known as the University Avenue Business District, as designated on the map attached hereto, ItJ.rked EXHIBIT "A•, and by reference made a part hcreof 1 ~b) The 2ones in the area bounded by El Camino Real, College Avenue, Park Boulevard, and Page Mill Road, more commonly known as the California Avenue Business District, as designated on the map attached hereto, marked EXHIBIT ns~, and by reference made a part hereof; and (c) The zones in the area within the block bounded by Midtown Court near Colorado Avenue ~d Middlefield Road, more commonly known as the MidtO!m Business Area, as designated on the map attached hereto, marked EXHIBIT"C", and by reference made a part hereof 1 provided, however, that loading zones, passenger loading zones, and places where stopping, standing, or parking is prohibited within said areas shall not be included within this suspension of time-limits and parking charges on Saturdays. -l - • SECTION 2. All portions of prior resolutions in conflict with this resolution are hereby rescinded. The remainder of such prior resolutions not in conflict with this resolution shall remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. Sections 6 and 7 of Resolution 2971 (Requlatinq Parking and the Use of Certain Streets) hereby are amended, and the Parking Zones Map of the City of Palo Alto hereby is revised, to reflect this resolution • • SECTION 4. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to make changes to all appropriate signing to reflect this resolution. SECTION s. Pursuant to the requirements of the State Division of Highways: 1. Any provision of this resolution which regulates traffic or delegates the requlation of traffic upon state highways in any way. for which the approval of the Department Of Public Works is required by law shall cease to be operative six months after receipt by the City Council of written notice of withdrawal of approval of the Department of Public Works. Immediately upon the effective date of such revocation, the City Clerk shall enter upon the original of this resolution a notification of such withdrawal. -2. Whenever this resolution delegates authority to a city officer or authorizes a.ction by the City C_ouncil to regulate traffic UFOn a State Highway in any way which by law required the prior approval of the Department of Public Works, no such officer shall exercise such authority nor shall such action by the City Council be effective with respect to any State Highway without the prior approval in writing of the Depart- ment of Public Works when and to the extent required by Division 11 and Division 15 of the California Vehicle Code. -2 - .
