ALTO liRGING THE GOVEHNOR TO VETO PRE!::ENT
Sf;NATOR!AL REAPPORTIONMENT PLANS
WHEREAS, the: CaHfornia State Senate reapportionment plans approved '
re<·ently by the Ca\ifol'n\a State Legislature have ignored the interests defined
by the Midpeninsula geographic area, which includes the City of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, cinder said reapportionment plens, the area is in the same ciis-
trlcte aa far dh1tant communities having economic, social, and environmental
interests which differ significantly from those shared by the City of Palo Alto
and ita neighboring Midpeninsula communities; and
WHEREAS, community, regional, and county interests have been greatly
aacrificed for the purpose of assuring the reelection of all incumbents in the
State Senate and district boundary lines have been drawn with little considera~ions
other than the 11atisfaction of the present incumbents.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE
as follows:
SECTION 1. The Governor of the State of California hereby is urged to
ve~o said Senate reapportionment plans.
SECTION z. Tht City Clerk hereby is dir"'~ted to transmit a certifie~i~...,.,.,-
copy of this :.resolution to Governor Ronald Reagan.
