RESOLUTION NO. 4502
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
ENDORSING A MODEL RENTAL AGREEMENT AND PROVIDING
FOR ITS DISTRIBUTION TO VARIOUS AGENCIES WITHIN
THE COUNTIES OF SANTA CLARA AND SAN MATEO AND TO
TENANTS AND LANDLORDS UPON REQUEST
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto recognizes
that there is a considerable amount of friction between landlo~ds
and tenants in the City of Palo Alto as well as in other cities
and areas in California due to their close relationship and
their differing interest with regard to the rented property;
and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to make available to
landlords and tenants a model rental agreement which has as its
goals the equal protection of the rights and interests of both
landlords and tenants, the preservation of the important element
of human dignity in their relations, the resolution of recurrent
problems in their relations, the settinq forth of their privileges
and duties in landguage understandable to and easily followed by
nonlawyers, information as to rights and duties of both landlords
and tenants under the law, and acceptability, in whole or in
part, for use in the periodic rental or lease situation: and
WHEREAS, the Council assigned the task of drafting such a
model rental agreement to the City Staff in cooperation with the
Palo Alto Human R~lations Commission and interesteJ ~ ·our , and

Sl:CTION 4. 'I'he City Clerk is hereby directed to senu <l copy of this
resollltion with the r:;odel rental agreencnt attached to the various hunan
relations coimnissions, housing cor.uni ttees, and housing and rental
associations in Santa Clara Count~· and ~an nateo County and to r.1ake this
resolution and the model rental agreecent available to tenants and
lar.dlords upon request.

sideration of the race, creed, =eligion, or national origin of the proposed
