RESOLUTION NO. 4490
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
ENDORSING THE PALO ALTO YOUTH WORKSHOP'S ENDEAVOR
TO COMPETE IN THE NATIONAL COMMUNITY THEATRE FESTIVAL
AND REQUESTING FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THE PROJECT
FROM THE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Youth Workshop, under the direction
of Robert Kelly, is composed of two hundred Palo Alto youths for
the purpose of producing dramatic works; and
WHEREAS, twenty members of the Palo Alto Youth Workshop
competed in the California Corranunity Theatre Festival in Palo
Alto on the weekend of March 27-28, 1971, with-the play
"Intrusions," an original writing by Workshop member Mark Lutwak;
and
WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Youth Workshop's production of
''Intrusions" placed first in the California Community Theatre
Festival, and by default was selected as the Western Region
winner of the National Community Theatre Festival; and
WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Youth Workshop's production of
"Intrusions" will compete in the National ComMunity Theatre
Festival finals August 14-15, 1971, in Chicago against four
other regional winner,.~ from the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Youth Workshop is the only youth
qroup participating in the National Community Theatre Festival
Final Competition: and

WHEREAS, Palo Alto Youth Workshop members and supporters
have received no grants from institutions, and have therefore
spent the entire summer raising the $4,500 needed to make the
trip to Chicago themselves, through such means as film shows,
plays, picking apricots, doing odd jobs, and soliciting private
donations; and

WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Youth Workshop has not been able
to raise the full amount needed to go to Chicago.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
the City of Palo Alto hereby endorses the endeavor of the twenty
members of the Palo Alto Youth Workshop to represent the
citizens of Palo ~lto and the Western Region of the United States
in the National Community Theatre Festival Final Competition
in Chicago August 14-15, 1971: and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo
Alto encourages the community to give its financial support to
the Palo Alto Youth Workshop and thereby make possible its
appearance in the final competit~on of the National Community
Theatre Festival in Chicago with its production of "Intrusions."
