RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
OBJECTING TO THE PROPOSED DELETION OF ROUTE 35,
SKYLINE BOULEVARt>, FROM TBE·S'fATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto has been
advised by the Division of Highways that the Department er Public
Works has determined that Route 35, Skyline Boulevard, should be
deleted f~om the State Highway Sy3tem based upon tfie 1990 functional
classification criteria; and
WHEREAS, this council has reviewed the proposal and desires
to present its objection thereto.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. Route 35, Skyline Boulevard, meanders in and out
of city and county limits for its entire length through the San
Francisco Peninsula area, making maintenance difficult because
of the possibly imprecise boundaries, highway law enforcement
would be difficult at best if local entities have exclusive
jurisdiction.
SECTION 2. The fu~ure ~dministration of Routtt 35, were it
not within the State Highway System would be an inequitable bur-
den upon the financial reaou;-ces of the different agencies ·
limited by this highway because Route 35 is truly a regfonal
carrier without a qreat deal of local service involved.
SECTION 3. The Council of the City of Palo Alto strongly
objects.to the proposed 4eletion of Route 35, Skyline Boulevard,
from the State Highway Syatem for the reasons herein expressed
and urges the Department of Public Works.to retain Route 35,
Skyline Boulevard, within the State Highway System.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a
c~py of this resolution to tpe Councils of each of the cities

connected by Route 351 to the Boards-of-Supervisors of the
Counties of Sant Mateo and S•nta Clara; to the Honorable Alfred
E. Alquist and Clark L, Bradley, State Senators; to the Honorable
John Vasconcellos and RiQ~ard Hayden, State Assemblymeni to the
Business and Transportation Agency, Department of Public Works,
Division of Highways, State pf California; and to Alan s. Hart,
Di$trict Engineer, Division of Highways, State of California.
