HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4474• RESOLUTION NO. 4474 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO OBJECTING TO TffE PROPOSED DELETION OF ROUTE 82 (EL CAMINO REAL) FROM THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto has been advised by the Division of Highways that the Department of Public Works has determinea that Route 82, El Camino Real, should be deleted from the State Highway System based upon the 1990 functional classification criteria: and WHEREAS, this council has reviewed the proposal and desir~s to present its objection thereto. NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. Route 82, Bl Camino Real, serves as an alternate inter-city connecting liqk for its entire length through the San Francisco Peninsula area, and must be uniformly maintained and improved. SECTION 2. The future administration of Route 82, were it not within the State Hiqhway System would b~ an inequitable burden upon the financial resources Qf the different agencies limited by this principal artery. SECTION 3. The pre~ent procedure whereby local agencies are each required to matntaiq that portion of Route 82 which is within its jurisdiction to the ~evel.of excellence required by the Divi- sion o.c-_Highways-an<j to qe reimbursed therefor by the State is- economical, efficient anq to the best interests of the taxpayers and the traveling public. SECTION 4. The council of the r.ity of Palo Alto strongly objects to the propQsed qeleti_on of Ro~te 82, El Camino Real, from the State Highway System for the reasons herein expressed and urges the Department of Public Works to retain Route 82 (El Camino Real) within the State Highway System • ... l - • SECTION s. The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution to each of the cities connected by Route 82; to the Counties of S-n Mateo and Santa Clara1 to the Honorable Alfred E. Alquist and Cl~rk L. Bradley, State Senators1 to the Honorable John Vasconcellos and Riehard Hayden, State Assemblymen; to the Business and Transportation Agency, Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, State of California1 and to Alan s. Hart, District Engineer, Division of Highways.
