' ., . . • ~IGINAL REiiOLtrl'ION NO. 4441 ----- RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OP" THE CITY OF PALO ALTO APPROVING AND ADOPTING A PLAN FOR AN URBAN BICYCLE ROtJ'l'E SYS1'EM1 REQUESTING CERTAIN PUBLIC AGENCIES . AND STANFORD UNIVERSITY TO ACCEPT BICYCLE ROUTE DESIGNATIONS: AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE WITH THOSE PUBLIC AGENCIES AND STANFORD UNIVERSITY REGARDING A COMPREHENSIVE BICYCLE ROUTE AND PATH SYSTEM FOR THE-MIDPENINSULA AREA WHEREAS, the Council has previously approved and adopted certain •Trails and Paths P:an• policies and proposals for the City of Palo Alto: and WHEREAS, on February 24, 1970, the Council unanimously approved a motion retaining the operative bicycle route system of the City and directinq the city staff to review and report on appropriate improvements to, and changes in, the marking of special bicycle lanes on city streets; the elimination of unnecessary posts in bicycle trails: the ir_stallation of . . curb ramps at appropriate locations for bicyc·le routes J the coordination of the City's bicycle route system with the City's trail system and Stanford University's bicycle route aystem1 and chanqea needed in individual bicycle routes within the City; and WHEREAS, in response to the Council's directive of February 24, 1970, the staff has formulated the requested recommendations with full recoqnition of, and coordination with, said •Trails and Paths Plan~ policies and proposals, said rec0111nendations being incorporated into a map entitled •EXHIBIT 'A"--MASTER PLAN--URBAN BICYCLE ROUTE SYSTEM"; -l - ·, . .. __ , ~ . ' t :.~.; _ _...,.. .• . • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Palo Alto that said Council does hereby approve and adopt said "EXHIBIT 'A'--MASTER PLAN--URBAN BICYLE ROU'l'E SYSTEM," which is attached hereto, as official Council policy: and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Council requests each of the following desiqnated public agencies as well as Stanford University to accept, with respect to those streets, roads, highways, and rights-of-way under their respective jurisdictions, the designation as "bicycle routes" of those streets, roads, highways, and rights-of-way which connect to the bicycle route streets within the City of Palo Alto as identified on said "EXHIBIT A•: and 1. Palo Alto Unified School District 2. County of Santa Clara 3. City of San Francisco Water Department 4. Town of Los Altos Hills 5. City of Los Altos 6. City of Mountain View 7. City of Menlo Park 8 • County of San Mateo 9. State of California, Division of Bi9hways1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Council directs the City Manager to enter into discussions and negotiations with said public ager.cies listed. above and with Stanford University to develop a coordinated and cODlprehensive bicycle route and path system for the Midpeninsula Area, to prepare any and all necessary legal documents related thereto," and to formulate -2 - ... ,. .. .
