RESOLUTION NO. 4624
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
SUPPORTING THE APPROPRIATION OF STA~E FUNDS TO STATE
AGENCIES TO INSURE ADEQUATE LEGAL AND TECHNICAL SER-
VICES TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC INTEREST IN SAN FRANCISCO
BAY FROM INAPPROPRIATE CLAIMS OF PRIVATE PARTIES
WHEREAS, litigation is pending between the State of California,
other public entities, and private parties involvin~ title to
approximately 10,000 acres of land in San Francisco Bay; and
WHEREAS, an adverse decision will result in the loss of this
enormously valuable resource to the public; and
WHEREAS, a portion of the lands involved in this litigation
are owned by the City of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, technical and legal services are extraordinarily costly;
and
WHEREAS, it is essential that the claims of private parties to
San Francisco Bay property, which has been used without interruption
for more than 100 years, be defeated and the rights of the public in
said lands be preserved once and for all; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1479, introduced by Assemblyman Bagley,
contains an appropriation of $166,000 for the State Lands Conunission
for the express purpose of providing staff and technical expertise
in the prosecution of the litigation: and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1479 has passed the California State
Assembly and is currently pending in the California State Senate;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION l. The council urges the California State Senate to
approve the appropriation of $166,000 to the State Lands Commission,
which is contained in Assembly Bill 1479.

SECTION 2. The City Clerk is authorized and directed to send a
copy of this resolution to each of the members of the Senate Corranittee
on the Judiciary and the Senate Committee on Finance, as follows:
Senators Alfred H. Song and Randolph Collier, the respective
chairmen
Senators Alquist, Beilenson, Bradley, cusanovich, Deukmejian,
Gregorio, Grunsky, Holmdahl, Lagomarsino, Marler, Moscone,
Petris, Roberti, Rodda, Short, Stevens, Stiern, Teale, Way,
and Zenovich.
