RESOLUTION NO. 4597 -----
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
COMMENDING THE CUBBERLEY HIGH SCHOOL FUND-RAISING
PROGRAM, PHASE I I, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CHILDREN 1 S
MEDICAL RELIEF INTERNATIONAL
WHEREAS, the students of Cubberley_High School are engaged
in a fund-raising program, "Phase I:t,11 and
WHEREAS, the Phase II program, entitled "GIFT" will raise
funds for the Children's Medical Relief International, a non-
profit organization specializing in the rehabilitation of
Vietnamese children injured and disabled by the war, and
WHEREAS, the funds_ are\ being raised by obtaining votes as
to whether or not a coach should sport long hair and a beard,
donations being required for each vote, and
WHEREAS, the publicity of \.~1is "GIFT" will bring home the
fact that children are being injured, disfigured and killed as
a result of the war, and
WHEREAS, the Phase II fund-raising program is a positive
non-destructive expression of attitude toward the war, struc-
tured to eliminate antagonism and alienation of those in a
position to exert policY effects toward the war;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto
RESOLVES as follows:
SECTION 1. 'l'he Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby
commends and supports Phase II of Cubberley High School's
current fund-raising program, an expression of attitude toward
the war in the form of donations to the Children's Medical
Relief International.
SECTION 2. The Clerk of the City of Palo Alto is hereby
